Salary Range: $55,000 - $59,000

This position requires a strong design portfolio, with an emphasis on a wide variety of design projects across digital, print, and out of home.

Job Summary

Seneca Park Zoo Society is seeking a versatile and creative Visual Designer to support a wide range of visual communication needs. This role will be responsible for designing and producing signage, social media content, print collateral, and other creative projects that strengthen the Zoo's brand and engage audiences both onsite and online. The ideal candidate is highly organized, collaborative, and skilled at managing multiple design projects from concept through production.

Key Responsibilities

Signage

Design and produce on-ground signage, wayfinding, and interpretive graphics that enhance the guest experience.

Print & Collateral

Create brochures, sales collateral, direct mail, reports, magazines, and other printed materials to support marketing, education, and development initiatives.

Digital & Social Media

Develop engaging graphics, illustrations, and short-form media for the Zoo's website, email campaigns, and social media platforms. Working with the Communications Coordinator to ensure content is optimized for digital channels and aligned with brand guidelines.

Creative Collaboration

Partner with the Education, Development, Programming and Conservation Action, and other departments to deliver creative solutions that support institutional goals. Manage multiple projects simultaneously, maintaining high quality and meeting deadlines.

Brand Stewardship

Uphold consistency in visual identity across all platforms and materials. Contribute creative ideas that elevate the Zoo's storytelling and audience engagement.

Videography & Photography

Capture of video and photo assets as needed.

File Management

Manage, prep, and package files for production including large format, branded apparel, branded merch, signage, print and more across multiple external vendors.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work at a computer for extended periods of time.
  • Some lifting < 40 lbs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, or related field
  • 4+ years of professional design experience (not including school/education) across print and digital media
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign; video/animation skills a plus).
  • Proficiency using WordPress and Elementor and/or other website content management systems
  • Strong layout, typography, and visual storytelling skills. Copywriting a plus.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience designing for nonprofits, cultural institutions, or conservation organizations a plus.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and shifts as needed.
