Job Purpose

SXSW is seeking a Website Editor who will be responsible for working with our Content, Comms, and Experience Teams to produce and publish new content on sxsw.com. If you’re comfortable operating independently, motivated, and organized, with a strong attention to detail, and enthusiasm for tackling website challenges in a fast-paced and unique environment, this could be the perfect role for you.

Job Purpose

SXSW is seeking a Website Editor who will be responsible for working with our Content, Comms, and Experience Teams to produce and publish new content on sxsw.com. If you’re comfortable operating independently, motivated, and organized, with a strong attention to detail, and enthusiasm for tackling website challenges in a fast-paced and unique environment, this could be the perfect role for you.

Duties & Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Write, edit, and publish informational articles for sxsw.com, including timely website copy, photos, videos, announcements, programming highlights, session formats, and more.
  • Build and format new website pages to keep the site fresh with the latest news from SXSW.
  • Advance business goals by consistently developing new website article topics.
  • Collaborate with the Technology and Experience UX teams to monitor web technology and support their updates as needed.
  • Monitor and respond to all internal SXSW web tickets.
  • Strategize and implement SEO best practices to build traffic and increase page views for sxsw.com.


On-site Responsibilities

  • Ensure sxsw.com captures the critical information for attendees and prospective attendees.
  • Curate content, including photos, videos, and quotes from SXSW participants in real time
  • Write blogs on programming spotlights, attendee services, and more
  • Create and publish content from daytime Conference sessions to nightly Festival and awards coverage
  • Support late-breaking announcements and important event updates
  • Assist in monitoring SXSW social media accounts for community engagement


Qualifications & Skills

Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s degree (Degree(s) in Journalism, Marketing, or Communications is a plus).
  • Proven work as a web editor
  • Knowledge of SEO strategies
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Passion for writing and creativity is a must
  • Ability to work under pressure in a high-stress environment
  • Works well within a team and independently on projects
  • Self-starter who can multitask and solve problems quickly and accurately
  • Experience working at past festivals, publications, and/or social media teams is preferred
  • Expert knowledge of WordPress
  • Basic knowledge of Hootsuite, Airtable, Google Drive, and Photoshop.

  • Prolonged periods of sitting or standing at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to lift up to 10 pounds occasionally, as needed.
  • Operation of standard office equipment, including computers, phones, and printers.
  • May require occasional bending, reaching, kneeling, or climbing stairs
  • Ability to work outdoors, including exposure to varying temperatures or noise levels.

Work Location & Schedule

The position is full-time and located in Austin, Texas. Core business office hours are from 10 am to 6 pm Monday through Friday. You must be available to be in the office Monday - Thursday. You must also be available to work additional hours from January through March, including evenings and weekends, and for the March event, which will have extended working hours on-site.
