The Finger Lakes Toy Library is seeking a work study student for Fall 2025! Our fall internship will offer an

exciting opportunity for a student to benefit local children while gaining valuable experience working

with a non-profit that is quickly growing. This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in nonprofit

work, fundraising, marketing, childhood development, sustainability, and community and social services.

About the Finger Lakes Toy Library:

We are a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to improving quality of life by increasing access to toys,

supporting play, and encouraging a culture of reuse and sharing. Play is increasingly being shown to be

invaluable to the development and education of children, especially during early childhood. We are

proud to positively impact our region’s children by making high-quality toys accessible to everyone in the

community. Currently, we serve nearly 500 member families and have an inventory of over 1,800 toys,

games, and puzzles.

In addition to lending toys, we offer regular playtimes in locations throughout the community. Playtimes

are held in various locations throughout Ithaca and the surrounding areas. Some examples include the

Greater Ithaca Activities Center (GIAC), Southside Community Center, the Sciencenter, GreenStar Food

Coop, Newfield Public Library, Watkins Glen Public Library, and others.

Over the last few months, we have been expanding our programming to increase our playtimes,

including ongoing regular playtimes with GIAC and in rural communities around the finger lakes region.

Work Study Student Responsibilities:

Duties will center around assisting the Director of Operations and board members with all aspects of

running the toy library, and may include some or all of the following: planning and running events,

working the circulation desk, cleaning toys, hosting playtimes throughout the community, preparing

marketing materials and mailings, performing prospective donor research and other fundraising tasks,

and other projects, as needed.

Desired Skills and Experience:

Applicants should be self-motivated and independent. Previous experience in customer service, child

development, or volunteering/working with nonprofits (particularly children’s non-profits) is preferred

but not necessary. Hours are flexible, but a commitment of six to eight hours per week is required.

Pay Rate: 16.50/hour
