We are seeking an experienced, ambitious, and entrepreneurial Literary Agent to join our growing team and help shape the future of our agency.
About the RoleAs a Literary Agent at Storyteller Talent, you will be responsible for building and managing your own client list within our supportive and collaborative agency structure. This is a traditional agenting role for a self-starter who is passionate about discovering new voices, negotiating excellent deals, and fostering the long-term careers of authors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Actively solicit and evaluate manuscript submissions to build a distinguished client list in your area of expertise.
- Provide insightful editorial guidance to prepare client manuscripts for submission to major publishers.
- Develop and execute tailored submission strategies, leveraging your network of editor contacts.
- Skillfully negotiate contracts, including advances, royalties, and subsidiary rights, to secure the best possible terms for our authors.
- Serve as a dedicated advocate and strategic partner for your clients, providing career guidance and managing their literary projects.
- Collaborate with the agency team to identify and pursue media adaptation opportunities (film, television, etc.).
This is not an entry-level position. We are seeking an experienced agent with a proven ability to sell books and manage author careers.
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience as a literary agent at a reputable agency, with a verifiable track record of book deals with major publishers.
- An established and robust network of editor contacts across the "Big Five" and other significant publishing houses.
- Demonstrated expertise in contract negotiation and a strong understanding of publishing agreements.
- Exceptional editorial skills and a keen eye for identifying commercially viable, high-quality manuscripts.
- An entrepreneurial mindset, with the drive and ambition to build a successful client list.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Must be based in or willing to work on-site at our Calabasas, California office.
This is a full-time, commission-only position with unlimited earning potential. The successful candidate will receive a competitive percentage of the standard 15% agency commission on all deals they secure. This is an ideal opportunity for a motivated agent to build a significant income stream within an innovative and supportive agency environment.
