Scion Staffing has been engaged to conduct a search for a Communications & Media Lead for a globally recognized research institute advancing safe and responsible artificial intelligence. This is a fully remote opportunity, open worldwide, with a strong preference for candidates able to work in Pacific hours. Occasional travel is required for team retreats and conferences.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

We are seeking a dynamic and strategic Communications & Media Lead to craft and share compelling narratives that bring complex technical research to policymakers, media, and the public. This individual will drive the organization’s communications strategy, expand its public reach, and ensure research outputs are accessible and impactful on a global scale. This is an exciting opportunity for a mission-driven communicator to make a difference at the intersection of emerging technology, governance, and public engagement.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Develop and execute communications strategies to amplify research for policymakers, journalists, and public audiences.
• Translate complex AI and governance topics into clear, engaging content across blogs, social media, podcasts, and reports.
• Manage and grow organizational visibility across web and digital platforms.
• Lead campaigns that combine media, publications, and events to drive awareness.
• Build relationships with journalists, media outlets, and external partners.
• Track and report on communications metrics to guide strategy.
  
  

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Proven ability to distill and communicate complex technical or research-based information for diverse audiences.
• Familiarity with AI governance, AI safety, or related policy and research fields.
• Successful track record in developing communications or media strategies within technical, research, or mission-driven organizations.
• Skilled in digital platforms, SEO, CMS, analytics tools, and social media management.
• Strong writing, editing, and project management abilities with exceptional attention to detail.
  
  

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

This role offers an annual salary of $80,000–$110,000, depending on experience, plus a global benefits package, generous PTO, flexible scheduling, and support for remote equipment and expenses.
