The Music Therapist works under the supervision of, and in collaboration with, senior Music Therapists, providing direct assessment and clinical interventions to patients and families. The role aligns with competencies established by the American Art Therapy Association or American Music Therapy Association and requires credentialing by the ATCB (Art Therapy Credentials Board) or CBMT (Certification Board of Music Therapists).
The therapist supports children, teens, and family members in healthcare settings by delivering interventions that promote ongoing medical and psychosocial goals. They utilize evidence-based practices to plan, organize, and execute therapy interventions while collaborating with an interdisciplinary team to provide trauma-informed, family-centered care.
Responsibilities:
- Cultivate clinical competency and maintain board certification.
- Demonstrate proficiency in functional art or music skills and stay informed about relevant styles and repertoire for the pediatric population.
- Exhibit excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and effectively navigate fast-paced, demanding environments while maintaining high customer service standards.
- Maintain strong competence in creative arts and child life philosophy, ensuring alignment with departmental mission and vision.
- Serve as an interdisciplinary expert in the psychosocial care and development of children of all ages, individualizing care for each patient.
- Actively promote a departmental culture that values diversity, equity, and inclusion, representing all ages and abilities.
- Stay current with departmental education and mandatory requirements.
- Assess and prioritize the needs of children and families for music therapy interventions addressing emotional, social, mental, and physical conditions experienced in the hospital setting.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications:
- Obtain Registered Art Therapist (ATR) or Music Therapy Board Certification (MT-BC) within 6 months of hire and maintain certification without lapse.
- Minimum of 3 months of creative arts experience working with children in medical, behavioral health, or therapeutic settings.
