Job Summary:

A Radio Dispatcher II ensures prompt response by repair crews or emergency vehicles by utilizing a two-way base radio, telephone and related communications equipment to resolve citizen complaints or calls for assistance. Work of this class involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities.

Incumbents receive moderate supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work a rotating shift to provide 24-hour coverage, seven days a week. Work is performed in an office setting where the employee seldom encounters uncomfortable environmental or hazardous working conditions. Work requires moderate physical exertion.

Minimum Qualifications:

On or before the date of filing the application, each candidate must:

Education: Have graduated from an accredited high school or possess a GED certification from an accredited institution.

AND

Experience: Have three years of experience in operating a two-way base radio and related communications equipment.

OR

Equivalency Notes: Have an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Licenses, Registrations, and Certificates: Have three years of experience in operating a two-way base radio and related communications equipment.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Federal Communications Commission rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of City street locations.
  • Skill in the operation of two-way base radios and related communications equipment.
  • Ability to speak clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to read maps.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to perform under high stress situations.
  • Ability to maintain records.

Additional Information

Background Check

Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint must be successfully completed.

Probation

All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory six-months.

Eligibility

Qualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise, for a period of at least six months. The decision of the Director of Human Resources with respect to acceptable minimum qualifications is final.

Education Accreditation

Applicants’ education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Education credentials obtained out of the US must be evaluated for US equivalency. Evaluation agencies information may be obtained at www.naces.org.
