The Berkshire Eagle, one of the most respected local newspapers in the United States, seeks a reporter to cover housing in the Berkshires region of Western Massachusetts.

If you are a journalist who can see the big picture while digging deep into the numbers, policies and personal stories that define the housing landscape, we want to hear from you.

Our reporting focuses on the forces driving the housing market — from zoning laws and real estate trends to economic development initiatives and demographic shifts — and connects these factors to the lived experiences of residents and workers. You’ll track local government and planning boards, monitor new developments and proposed projects, follow the housing market and the factors affecting it, and hold public officials and developers accountable for their commitments. Just as importantly, you’ll surface stories from tenants, homeowners, employers, housing advocates and those shut out of the market.

Your coverage will provide a steady output of daily news stories and enterprise packages that identify problems, but more importantly, report on possible solutions to this critical issue.

Please provide a letter of interest, resume and three to five published examples of your news writing or editing work. The deadline to apply is Sept. 1, 2025.

The Berkshire Eagle offers a competitive compensation package, including health, dental, vision and life insurance, along with a 401(k). A drug screening is required.

As a locally owned and operated publication, The Berkshire Eagle is not loose change in a venture capital portfolio. Our mission is clear — to be the finest community newspaper in the United States. Consistently recognized as a Newspaper of the Year in New England for our size, we are passionate about delivering impactful journalism to our community.

Join us in the heart of the Berkshires, where natural beauty meets vibrant community life. Be part of a newspaper that writes and reports for its readers, not its sources.

The Berkshire Eagle is an equal opportunity employer.
