Liberal Arts Instructional Technology Services (LAITS) is seeking highly skilled and motivated professionals to assist with the operations of a unique service department dedicated to creating, maintaining, and promoting technology within the College of Liberal Arts at The University of Texas. The LAITS Studio team, which produces hundreds of field and studio events annually, seeks a Studio Resource Manager with experience managing both people and A/V inventory, and background in the administrative functions of running a production team. This position is essential to ensuring smooth scheduling, project and budget tracking, and clear communication with both internal LAITS staff and external stakeholders.
The Resource Manager will help recruit and manage a team of 15-20 student employees and ensure that they are trained according to departmental operating procedures, including audio, video, and post-production skills. This role will also meticulously manage the Studio inventory, ensuring that gear is properly maintained and available for production needs, as well as compliant with all studio and university standards.
A core responsibility of this role will be to track data collection and trends across multiple platforms with a goal of optimizing time and invoice tracking for multiple departments within the studio team.
The Resource Manager will work closely with the Director of Studio Operations and other staff to meet production needs and assist with logistics as needed.
Responsibilities
Overseeing the recruiting, hiring, and scheduling of student employees.
Maintaining an updated inventory list of all Studio gear and ensure studio gear is kept in working condition in accordance with Studio and UT policies:
- Ensure studio gear is kept in working condition; manage repair requests, software updates, and troubleshoot equipment errors.
- Maintain an updated inventory for all studio gear.
- Assist with ordering supplies for the Studio team.
- Collaborate with other Studio staff members to ensure student employees are upskilling and equipped with skill sets to handle the various production roles.
- Assist with the creation and maintaining of equipment training materials.
- Maintain internal and external facing production calendars alongside other LAITS Studio staff members.
- Assist with estimates and invoices of projects in collaboration with other LAITS Studio staff members.
- Research, maintain knowledge of industry trends, and provide recommendations on equipment to improve capabilities and efficiency of the team.
- Track progress of projects using calendars, time management software, and communication with crew members.
- Make recommendations for and help with the creation of workflows and policies that enhance efficiencies of bookings, training, and staffing across the Studio team.
Assist with project needs of Studio team:
- Assist with set-up and productions as needed.
- Assist on other projects as assigned by the Director of Studio Operations.
- Bachelor's Degree.
- 5+ years of work experience in media design and/or media production
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Strong client communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, mature judgment, and diplomacy required to interact effectively with and provide customer service to a broad audience.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to adapt equipment setup and provide alternative workarounds if necessary.
- Ability to demonstrate a strong team-oriented approach, fostering collaboration and effective communication with colleagues across various departments
- Working knowledge of industry trends and best practices related to event production and production-related equipment.
- Proficiency in collaborative technical tools, including Microsoft Office suite, Google Workspace, and Zoom
- Strong managerial and coaching skills, fluent at providing feedback and mentoring.
- Ability to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree related to the audio/video field
- 5+ years of experience, recruiting, managing, and creating schedules for multiple staff members.
- 5+ years of experience overseeing a large, varied inventory.
- 5+ years of record-keeping, playing close attention to detail to ensure accurate timekeeping and accounting for and condition of equipment across multiple locations.
- 5+ years of experience creating estimates and invoicing.
- Strong understanding of different types of camera equipment, lenses, and accessories, along with familiarity with technical specifications.
- Ability to inspect, clean, and perform minor repairs on gear.
- Experience with live production, film sets, or in studio work.
- Working knowledge of Slack, Zoom, Teams, Microsoft office, and Google workspace.
- Strong client communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience using AirTable.
- Proven ability to lead a team.
- Broad knowledge of all aspects of professional quality productions, including field and studio camera, lighting, sound, and editing.
- Strong knowledge of production techniques, including videography, compression and file delivery, and other production formats.
- Ability to adapt equipment setup and provide alternative workarounds if necessary.
- Experience compiling data from multiple platforms and creating reports and recommendations based on the data.
- Proven ability to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, mature judgment, and diplomacy required to interact effectively with and provide customer service to a broad audience.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Strong computer skills.
- Ability to work independently and effectively in a collaborative team environment.
- Advanced technical experience using digital media equipment, video creation, editing software, and/or digital media control software
- Can independently operate and instruct others to operate portable and installed AV equipment (sound, lighting, projection) for events.
- Experience working in a university setting.
- Professional experience managing and mentoring a team of student employees.
- Production experience with the University of Texas at Austin or other state agencies.
This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing).
Salary Range
$68,000 + depending on qualifications
