Summary of Job Duties:
The Division of Student Affairs at the University of Arkansas is seeking a creative, user-centered Web Designer to join a collaborative communications and marketing team dedicated to enhancing the student experience. This role is responsible for designing and building digital solutions that are intuitive, engaging, and aligned with the university’s brand and accessibility standards.The Web Designer will lead the design and front-end development of websites and digital tools that support Student Affairs units, with a focus on usability, accessibility, and visual storytelling. The ideal candidate is a proactive problem-solver who thrives in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment and is passionate about designing experiences that matter to students.
Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
At least four years of professional web development experience in lieu of a degree
OR
At least two years professional web development experience and a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education
OR
At least two years of professional experience developing within the Modern Campus CMS (formerly known as Omni update)
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in higher education or designing for student audiences
Extensive experience developing responsive and accessible web interfaces using front-end technologies such as HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and Bootstrap
Proven experience using design tools like Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, and Sketch to transform visual concepts into fully functional web layouts
Hands-on experience applying web accessibility standards (WCAG 2.x AA) and usability best practices to create inclusive, user-centered digital experiences
E xperience working with content management systems (CMS), preferably Modern Campus CMS or WordPress, to create and manage web content efficiently
Familiarity with cross-browser compatibility, responsive design frameworks, and front-end performance optimization techniques
Experience with search engine optimization (SEO) principles and analytics tools such as Google Analytics to support performance monitoring and continuous improvement
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities(KSAs):
Knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud
Knowledge of SEO Principles
Knowledge of web standards, accessibility, and best practices
Strong attention to detail and a demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality, accessible user experiences that meet usability and design standards
Strong problem-solving, collaborative, and communication skills
Basic project management skills
Ability to debug and troubleshoot front-end code and resolve design or functionality issues across browsers, devices, and platforms
Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment

Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act)
The Student Right to Know and Campus Security Act was passed in 1990 and was amended in 1998 to form the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act. This law requires that certain institutions of higher education distribute to all current students and employees a copy of the required report, and to all prospective students and employees a summary of what is contained in the yearly report. The report is available on the Internet and may be downloaded and printed with Adobe Reader 5.0 or higher software.
