Description
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is seeking a highly skilled Senior Technical Writer to support the development, maintenance, review, and periodic refresh of Program Accountability and Risk Management (PARM) documentation . This role requires advanced professional writing and editing skills, with the ability to produce clear, concise, and accurate documents that align with plain language standards and DHS formatting requirements.
The Senior Technical Writer will collaborate with subject matter experts, team members, and Government stakeholders to deliver high-quality documentation, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and consistency across a variety of executive-level materials.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, edit, and maintain a wide range of DHS documentation, including:
- Directives, instructions, standard operating procedures (SOPs), guidebooks, and reference materials.
- Reports, white papers, and executive-level correspondence.
- Training and informational materials.
- Templates, briefing materials, memoranda, and similar documentation.
- Diagrams, charts, tables, lists, and other visual aids.
- Directives, instructions, standard operating procedures (SOPs), guidebooks, and reference materials.
- Conduct technical reviews of executive-level documents to ensure consistency with:
- Department directives.
- DHS formatting, grammar, and syntax standards.
- Target audience and communication style.
- Department directives.
- Provide recommended edits to the Government within two (2) business days of receiving executive-level documents.
- Apply plain language principles and determine appropriate writing style to maximize clarity and effectiveness.
- Collaborate with SMEs, program teams, and leadership to refine documentation and ensure it meets mission objectives.
- Ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance across all deliverables.
- Manage multiple document review cycles simultaneously, meeting all deadlines.
Requirements
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Technical Writing, Information Systems, or a related discipline.
Experience
- Significant experience (7+ years preferred) producing, editing, and reviewing documentation at the senior professional level .
- Experience supporting federal agencies or large-scale programs.
- Proven ability to review and edit executive-level correspondence and policy documentation.
Skills
- Expert-level professional writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
- Proficiency with plain language standards and ability to adapt style based on audience.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and Government stakeholders.
- Strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy and consistency across deliverables.
Clearance
- Must be a U.S. Citizen .
- Must possess or be eligible for a Secret clearance (or higher, as required).
