Technical Writer II

Technical Writer prepares airplane operational and maintenance documents for publication. Technical content is developed through research and analysis of engineering documents and consultation with subject matter experts. Text, tables, graphs, and illustrations are incorporated into technically accurate, easily understandable manuscripts, which are then reviewed, approved, released, and published. Technical Writer must proofread manuscripts for spelling, grammar, technical accuracy, and adherence to the Cirrus Technical Media Style Guide.

Duties and Responsibilities/Essential Functions

  • Prepare manuscripts for airplane flight manuals, maintenance manuals, illustrated parts catalogs, service documents, and pilot-related publications.
  • Gather technical information from engineering drawings, specifications, test reports, and vendor data.
  • Consult with engineers, pilots, and technicians to develop content.
  • Work with Technical Illustrators to define and incorporate supplementary illustrations into the manuscripts.
  • Proofread manuscripts for spelling, grammar, technical accuracy, and adherence to Cirrus Technical Media Style Guide.
  • Use defined procedures to submit completed manuscripts for review, approval, release, and publication.
  • Participate in document review process.
  • Maintain work records in accordance with Technical Media processes.
  • Analyze released engineering documents to assess their impact on Technical Media.
  • Coordinate foreign language translations, working closely with engineering and translation company to define, request, review, and incorporate translations.
  • Complete project assignments and takes responsibility for task outcomes.
  • Beginning to exercise design decision responsibilities, starting work from conceptual or specific direction from others.

Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in English, Technical Writing, Technical Communications, Engineering or a related field required.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills required.
  • Ability to conduct interviews with subject matter experts required.
  • 3 or more years' experience as a Technical Writer preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and technical reports preferred.
  • Experience with PTC Arbortext Editor, Adobe FrameMaker, Adobe Acrobat, PTC Creo View, DITA, and PTC Windchill, or equivalent Product Data Management system, preferred.
  • Private pilot's license, Airframe and Power Plant certificate, or background in aircraft maintenance preferred.
