Broadcast Engineer, KGTV

Are you passionate about the technology that brings news and entertainment to millions of viewers? KGTV in San Diego is seeking a skilled Broadcast Engineer to be the technical backbone of our operations, ensuring seamless content delivery through advanced broadcast systems. You will maintain and improve our broadcast capabilities, supporting our mission to serve the San Diego community with excellent programming.

Responsibilities include:

  • Perform preventive maintenance and emergency repairs on video, audio, and RF systems, including satellite and microwave equipment.
  • Operate and set up a Satellite IP truck.
  • Maintain logs and records as required by laws and FCC regulations.
  • Install and maintain video, audio, RF, and computer equipment, including digital transmitters, microwave systems, studio cameras, switching systems, video monitors, measurement devices, file servers, automation, and graphic systems.
  • Manage all studio equipment.
  • Maintain and repair news bureau, ENG, IP truck, satellite dishes, and related equipment.
  • Assist in designing operational improvements.

Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree in a related discipline or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Specialized training or certification may be required.
  • At least 2+ years of relevant experience preferred.

Desired skills and experience:

  • Proficiency with Ross switchers, Logitek audio consoles, Panasonic cameras, Ross Inception, Ross Xpression, Final Cut, Harris automation, Nexio servers; RF and transmitter experience is a plus; CAD skills are a plus.
  • Senior technician or paraprofessional with substantial responsibility experience.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex problems independently.
  • Knowledge of FCC rules; skills in test equipment and soldering.
  • Leadership qualities to guide and mentor colleagues.
  • Effective communication skills with team members and stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently under deadlines.
  • Capability to read schematics, mechanical drawings, and manuals.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work with microwave, transmitters, and satellites.

Compensation:

Hourly: $40.28 - $41.10. Salary posted is specific to California.
