Job Summary

As the Makeup Manager, you will oversee the entire makeup department, ensuring the seamless execution of all makeup operations for our haunt. You will lead a team of makeup artists, manage schedules, maintain high standards of artistry, and collaborate with other departments to deliver immersive and cohesive character transformations. This role requires a blend of creative vision, leadership, organizational skills, and hands-on makeup expertise.

Requirements

Department Leadership

  • Supervise, train, and mentor a team of makeup artists, providing guidance on techniques and character designs.
  • Assign makeup artists to specific actors and characters based on skill sets and production needs.
  • Conduct regular team meetings to communicate goals, updates, and address challenges.

Makeup Design & Application

  • Oversee the design and execution of all character makeup, ensuring consistency and quality across the haunt.
  • Approve and refine makeup concepts in collaboration with creative leadership.
  • Step in to apply makeup for complex characters or during peak times as needed.

Scheduling & Time Management

  • Develop and manage makeup schedules to ensure all actors are ready on time.
  • Coordinate with stage management and costume departments to align preparation timelines.
  • Monitor the progress of makeup application each night, reallocating resources as necessary to meet deadlines.

Inventory & Station Management

  • Oversee inventory of all makeup products, prosthetics, and tools; order supplies as needed.
  • Ensure all makeup stations are clean, organized, and compliant with health and safety standards.
  • Implement protocols for proper sanitation and storage of materials.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work closely with costume, hair, and special effects departments to create cohesive character looks.
  • Serve as the main point of contact between the makeup team and other production staff.
  • Provide feedback and support to team members, fostering a collaborative and creative environment.

Problem Solving & Adaptability

  • Address last-minute changes or challenges in makeup application, adjusting plans as needed.
  • Troubleshoot issues with products, prosthetics, or actor needs during performances.
  • Remain flexible to work in various settings, including low light and outdoor environments.

Training & Professional Development

  • Organize and lead pre-season training sessions for the makeup team.
  • Stay current on industry trends, products, and techniques, and share knowledge with the team.
  • Evaluate team performance and provide opportunities for skill development.

Professionalism

  • Model a positive, calm, and professional demeanor, especially in high-pressure situations.
  • Ensure respectful and considerate interactions with all actors and staff.
  • Uphold the highest standards of hygiene, safety, and artistic excellence.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years old to apply and work in this role.
  • Proven experience as a lead makeup artist or in a supervisory role within theatrical, film, or themed entertainment settings.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating advanced makeup, special effects, and character design skills.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational abilities.
  • Availability to work evenings, weekends, and extended shifts as required.
  • Ability to stand for long periods and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Commitment to attending all mandatory training, meetings, and pre-show preparations.
