Position Overview
The Lied Center presents and hosts well over 300 events per year, ranging from performances by professional visiting artists to receptions, dinners, meetings, lectures, conferences, festivals and other programs. Events take place in the Lied Center’s 2,000 seat main auditorium, as well as the multi-purpose pavilion and other event spaces.
The Student Events & Audience Services Assistant has a broad range of responsibilities in event management, client services, patron services, and artist services. This manager is the main point of contact for patrons and clients using the Lied Center during events. They are also responsible for executing detailed event plans, working with rental clients, assisting the Events & Audience Services Managers and Director in training and supervising volunteers in the Lied Center Usher Corps, and ensuring the safety and comfort of all patrons.
Job Description
- 30%: Opening and closing the building and managing public events. Coordinating and managing volunteer ushers on site: giving detailed usher briefings and assignments, opening/closing doors, managing ticket scanning and will call ticketing.
- 30%: Handling ticket transactions and Ticket Office customer service
- 10%: Preparing for events: signage; room layouts and seating; technology needs; printed programs, etc.
- 10%: Interacting directly with rental clients and managing event set-up and execution of events. Serving as the primary contact and liaison on site. Setting up, operating and troubleshooting A/V and presentation equipment: projectors and computers, basic sound, and lighting equipment.
- 10%: Interacting with Lied Center staff and outside vendors: ticket office staff, technical services staff, parking attendants, security, concessions, and catering services.
- 5%: Interacting directly with artists and their support staff: setting up and clearing artist hospitality and assisting with inventory of hospitality supplies.
- 5%: Managing merchandise sales: setting up sales areas, counting inventory, making sales, handling cash and financial settlements.
- One year of experience in events management, ticketing or customer service, or equivalent experience, as evidenced by application materials.
- Experience using Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), as evidenced by application materials.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in writing, as evidenced by application materials.
- Must be available to work an irregular schedule, including nights and weekends.
- Familiarity with performing arts centers or theater environment.
- Knowledge and/or training in ADA regulations for public assembly.
- Experience setting up and operating basic audio/visual equipment.
- Excellent organizational and problem solving skills as demonstrated in the application materials.
- Ability to work with a wide variety of people and project a positive, customer-friendly demeanor.
During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: 1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or be enrolled in summer session or be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments)
Employment Conditions
- Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.
- This is an hourly/non-exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
