Base pay range

$60,000.00/yr - $65,000.00/yr

The Communication Arts Department of the College of Arts, Sciences, and Business at Notre Dame of Maryland University is seeking applicants for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Communication Arts. The successful candidate will teach a range of media and communication courses starting in August 2025, contributing to the development of a well-rounded curriculum that prepares students for effective communication in both professional and media environments.

Responsibilities

This position is designed for a highly motivated individual who will teach courses that support our curriculum in media communication, digital media production, and marketing communication. The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Designing and teaching courses that foster students' ability to critically analyze and engage with media, with a focus on professional communication strategies and media literacy.
  • Cultivating students' skills in understanding and navigating the complexities of modern media environments, from digital communication tools to the impact of media on public perception and societal trends.
  • Encouraging students to develop professional communication skills that are essential for success in various industries, helping them articulate ideas clearly, persuasively, and ethically.
  • Integrating real-world media practices into the classroom, while ensuring students are equipped with the tools to critically evaluate and create media content.
  • Maintaining a 7-course teaching load each academic year, with opportunities for summer teaching as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or terminal degree in Mass Communication, Communication Studies, or a related field, completed before August 2025.
  • Demonstrated experience and expertise in professional communication, media literacy, and related fields.
  • A deep commitment to teaching, mentoring students, and fostering a classroom environment that emphasizes critical thinking and professional development.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in teaching media literacy, marketing communication, public relations, or similar courses.
  • Proficiency in incorporating digital tools and media platforms into the classroom.
  • A strong passion for helping students understand the role of media in shaping public perception and communication practices.
