We are currently seeking a full-time Mechanical Designer for our downtown Roanoke, Virginia office. The Mechanical Designer will work as part of our engineering team to produce HVAC design deliverables, support project coordination, and assist senior engineers and project managers in taking projects from schematic design through construction.
Responsibilities- Develop detailed HVAC system designs and layouts using Revit and CAD, including equipment selection, duct and piping routing, and system schematics.
- Prepare construction documents and detailed design drawings, ensuring accuracy, compliance with codes, and coordination with architectural and structural disciplines.
- Perform equipment sizing and basic HVAC calculations (airflow, heat loads, psychrometrics, duct and piping sizing) to inform design decisions and selections.
- Coordinate interdisciplinary design issues with architects, electrical and plumbing engineers, and other consultants to avoid conflicts and ensure constructability.
- Conduct regular site visits to verify field conditions, document as-built conditions, and support construction administration when required (RFI responses, site observations, and punch lists).
- Produce and review submittals and shop drawings; provide technical clarifications to contractors during construction.
- Maintain project documentation, version-controlled Revit models and drawing sets, and track design changes to meet project schedules and milestones.
- Participate in client meetings, design reviews, and project coordination calls; communicate progress, deliverables, and action items to project teams and clients.
- Support senior engineers with permit applications, code research, and preparation of technical narratives and equipment schedules.

- Site visit reports, punch lists, and construction observation notes
- 2 years of relevant work experience; FE/EIT credentials preferred but not required.
- Proficiency with Revit and experience designing HVAC systems.
- Experience preparing construction documents, performing site visits to verify field conditions, and coordinating with other disciplines.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks to meet project deadlines.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license strongly preferred.
