Job Title: Editor

The Maryland Daily Record is seeking an Editor with strong newsroom leadership skills and a proven track record of success. The ideal candidate will have experience managing a successful team, establishing a strong editorial vision, and creating deep connections in the business, government, and legal communities we serve. The Daily Record provides digital-first news, a daily print edition, and a robust social media presence. Leadership experience in these areas is essential.

This is a hybrid role, with the team working in the Baltimore office on Tuesdays and Thursdays and remotely on other days. The role requires active community engagement through event attendance and networking opportunities.

Responsibilities:

  1. Become a leader in the Maryland legal, government, and business communities by making strong connections with key leaders to benefit The Daily Record’s brand growth.
  2. Develop strategic ideas to grow the brand through content, recognition programs, partnerships, and more.
  3. Collaborate with leadership to improve editorial content, processes, and efficiency.
  4. Manage, hire, and train editorial staff.
  5. Participate in recognition, webinar, and educational events, including honoree selection, content planning, and networking.
  6. Develop and manage the editorial vision, ensuring the team provides timely, unique content aligned with the product and audience.
  7. Work with editors, reporters, and digital teams to grow paid readership and engagement using best practices.
  8. Create and oversee the annual editorial budget, ensuring team goals are met.
  9. Collaborate with sales and leadership to develop new products while maintaining editorial integrity.
  10. Stay informed on AI trends and monitor its ethical use in journalism.
  11. Achieve monthly metrics goals set by the editorial and executive teams.
  12. Ensure company culture, policies, and legal guidelines are communicated and followed throughout the organization.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s or advanced degree in English, journalism, communications, or related fields, with significant relevant experience.
  2. Proven leadership and editing experience demonstrating journalism excellence.
  3. Experience with legal, business, or niche products is a plus.
  4. Experience managing a digital-first, multimedia newsroom.
  5. Excellent communication, multitasking, decision-making, and organizational skills.
  6. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  7. Strong technology skills to lead and train a digital newsroom team.

Salary: $90,000 - $100,000 per year
