Job Summary

The Graphic Designer is responsible for the design, coordination, and production of various design projects according to brand standards and guidelines set by the Public Affairs & Marketing department. This position requires high proficiency in industry-standard design software, thorough understanding of graphic design fundamentals in both print and digital media, and excellent communication skills to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders. The Graphic Designer will also provide support to department leadership, working on special projects and liaising with colleges and departments

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Individual must possess the knowledge, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job.

  • Proficient on the Macintosh platform with professional level experience using InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, and Illustrator. Basic knowledge of Word, Excel and Acrobat. Knowledge of PowerPoint helpful.
  • Good verbal and written skills. Must be able to effectively interact with administration, faculty, staff and outside contacts.
Required Qualifications
  • Education: Minimum – Associates or art school degree in Graphic Design.
  • Experience: 1-2 years of graphic design and/or desktop publishing.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in graphic design.
Key Responsibilities

Design and Production:

  • Create visually appealing and effective designs for a wide range of publications and other marketing materials to be distributed through traditional and digital platforms.
  • Perform color correction, digital photo manipulation, desktop publishing, and design.
  • Prepare digital files for print vendors, ensuring high-quality output.
  • Create graphics for websites and digital advertising platforms.
  • Keep up with industry trends and share knowledge as a design expert to improve the entire department.
Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the main point of contact with external vendors, establishing and maintaining relationships.
  • Prepare and submit specifications to print and media vendors for estimating and production purposes.
  • Recommend vendors based on quality, cost, and project requirements.
  • Proof drafts, manage change requests, and oversee the smooth completion of assigned projects.

Project Coordination:

  • Assist or direct photo shoots, ensuring the alignment with the brand and marketing objectives.
  • Collaborate with colleges and departments on special projects, providing creative input and delivering exceptional designs.

Duties of the Graphic Designer are normally performed in a typical office/studio setting. While performing the duties in these settings the employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, extreme cold (non-weather), and risk of electrical shock or radiation. The noise level in these settings is usually moderate when using various machines and equipment.
