The Ingalls Library and Museum Archives is seeking an Access Services and Collections Management Librarian to provide leadership in developing, implementing, and evaluating services that ensure both physical and intellectual access to library resources, collections, and facilities in support of research and learning. This managerial position supervises two direct reports. This position reports to the Director of the Ingalls Library and Museum Archives and works closely and collaboratively with the library senior staff team.

The Ingalls Library and Museum Archives is seeking an Access Services and Collections Management Librarian to provide leadership in developing, implementing, and evaluating services that ensure both physical and intellectual access to library resources, collections, and facilities in support of research and learning. Key responsibilities include overseeing circulation, resource sharing, and document delivery services; managing collection maintenance and space planning; and establishing policies that promote the safety and security of visitors, staff, collections, and facilities. This managerial position supervises two direct reports. This position reports to the Director of the Ingalls Library and Museum Archives and works closely and collaboratively with the library senior staff team.

Requirements And Key Competencies

Master's degree in library science (MLIS) from an ALA-accredited program. Bachelor’s degree in art history or related field preferred. A minimum of two to four years of demonstrated experience in one or more areas of library public services and/or training in an academic or research library; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Supervisory experience required. Collection management and space planning experience preferred. Knowledge of copyright law as it applies to resource sharing. Comprehensive knowledge of circulation, interlibrary loan, collection maintenance, visitor services developments, trends, and issues. Demonstrated experience with fiscal management, personnel management, and relevant technologies. Experience with data collection, analysis, and reporting. Demonstrated organizational, decision-making, and problem-solving skills including the ability to create policy; supervise staff, interns, and volunteers; prioritize and manage workflow, projects, and multiple tasks while meeting deadlines and solving problems in a dynamic environment. Demonstrated ability to collaborate with institutional departments, community partners, and potential donors. Excellent research, oral, and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all facets of access services and resource sharing operations, ensuring a welcoming atmosphere for all library users. Continually look for ways to improve patron experience in conjunction with the Head of Research and Scholarly Programming Librarian. Monitor and evaluate trends in access services for research libraries.
  • Supervise and perform all administrative duties related to circulation staff, work-study students, interns, and volunteers by scheduling; prioritizing, organizing, and assigning work; training and evaluating staff based on annually assigned goals; reviewing work in progress; resolving problems related to access services as necessary; and updating Library Director on status of projects and assignments. Mentor and guide the professional development of access services staff and foster cross-training.
  • Develop and maintain effective methods of communication with visitors and other library and museum staff. Provide walk-in visitors with brief orientations to our facilities. Create and provide regularly scheduled visitor service training for all circulation staff. Maintain awareness of trends in visitor services. Coordinate library services with museum Visitor Services and Protection Services as appropriate to ensure consistency throughout the institution.
  • Manage interlibrary-loan services to ensure timely delivery to patrons and to determine any acquisition needs.
  • Oversee library stack maintenance including environmental controls, emergency supplies, equipment, and usage; oversee department libraries, shared library shelving, and curatorial offices.
  • Manage security of collection storage and public services areas.
  • Develop and implement long-term plans for all access services in coordination with the Head of Reference and Scholarly Programming and library director. Identify potential funding sources for projects associated with access services.
  • Provide consistent and ongoing evaluation, documentation, and continuous process improvement of all access services. Develop new or improved staffing models to effectively align staff with the tasks of the access services department to accomplish departmental and library goals and priorities. Maintain access services manual.
  • Develop and implement long-term plans for future collection storage and facility needs in coordination with the Director of Ingalls Library.
  • Provide reference services to all library constituencies in person, via phone and email, and virtually. Provide hardware and technology support to library visitors.
  • Identify, collect, analyze, and communicate statistics associated with access services monthly and as otherwise requested.
  • To ensure professional growth, maintain memberships in organizations such as ARLIS/NA and participate in conferences, seminars, and professional meetings.
  • In charge of library public service operations, as assigned, in the absence of the Head of Research and Scholarly Programming Librarian and/or Library Director.

Salary: $45,000, Full-time work is 35 hours per week; occasional overtime might be necessary.
