Description

Assesses individuals referred for music therapy to determine treatment planning. Provides treatment team with social/emotional perspective based on assessment.

Assesses individuals referred for music therapy to determine treatment planning. Provides treatment team with social/emotional perspective based on assessment.

Responsibilities

  • Individualizes plan of care, determining course of therapy taken: individual, group, family.
  • Arranges musical experiences to enhance the physical, emotional and spiritual well-being of patient.
  • Follows up with MD, RN, CSW and family regarding music therapy treatment objectives.
  • Writes daily progress notes in the medical chart providing outcome of music therapy goals.
  • Accompanies patients to medical tests, surgery, spirometry assisting in the comfort of patients which expedite process of interventions needed to be accomplished by staff.
  • Determines the kind of music that is appropriate to relieve anxiety and pain during procedures.
  • Provides imagery/ wind playing activities for asthmatic patients, enhancing breath capacity, improving peak flow measurements.
  • Provides daily relaxation sessions enabling dying children the comfort and safety to sleep.
  • Provides chanting for babies and toddlers for sedation when pharmacological agents cannot be used, or are not effective in achieving sedative states for medical tests and procedures.
  • Maintains records and collects data for three on-going music therapy studies which are representative of the programs musical objectives in the areas of pain, sedation, and asthma.
  • Develops outpatient HIV music therapy services for patients, siblings, and families.
  • Demonstrates positive outcomes of asthma in patient study-expanding services to outpatient clinic.

Qualifications

  • The music therapist should hold a Masters in Music therapy or Creative Arts Therapy
  • The Music therapist should have three or more years’ experience preferably in a medical setting with children.
  • The Music Therapist should have experience in the supervision of interns and/or fieldwork students.

Compensation

The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides salary ranges that comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $58661 - $81675 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and operational need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
