Germantown Academy is an independent, coeducational, college preparatory day school located on a beautiful 126-acre campus in the Fort Washington suburbs near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The school serves more than 1,200 students in grades PK-12. We are seeking qualified, experienced candidates for the part-time position of low brass instructor (with the ability to teach trumpet and French horn as needed) beginning the 2025-2026 school year. We are looking for an individual that is available Monday-Friday to give in-person instruction. The compensation is highly competitive and based on studio enrollment. Instructor must be available to give lessons both during and after school.

Responsibilities:

  • Capability to teach a wide range of ability levels, from basic music literacy to college preparatory instruction
  • Prepare Upper School brass musicians for PMEA district band solos and auditions
  • Proficiency in and openness to a variety of music genres, including but not limited to classical, jazz, R&B, and pop
  • Recruit, instruct, and retain students (4 th -12 th grades) on trombone, euphonium, baritone horn, and tuba. Trumpet and French horn as needed.
  • Prepare students for a yearly studio recital and any other collaborations at GA
  • Responsible for collaborating with ensemble directors to ensure success in performance groups
  • Demonstrate commitment to departmental engagements including collaborative interaction with performing arts faculty and staff
  • Strong organizational skills to manage scheduling logistics
  • Collaborate with private lesson coordinator, band director, and other instructors on curriculum and scheduling
  • Communicate regularly with families and respond to issues involving private lesson scheduling
  • Ensure that all rules and policies of the private lesson program are followed judiciously
  • Responsible for identifying new program needs and possibilities for expansion as they arise

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of two years teaching experience is required
  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in music performance or music education is required
  • Mastery of performance on low brass instruments
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, along with strong organizational abilities
