Ideal Candidate Statement

Under the direction of an administrator, perform a variety of duties involved in providing instructional support to the Photography instructors and students; maintain instructional materials, lab instruments, and Photography Department equipment.

This is a temporary position, working up to 20 hours per week on a semester-by-semester basis, limited to a maximum of 165 working days within a fiscal year.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide instructional and technical assistance and support to faculty in support of the curriculum;
  • Provide instructional and technical assistance and support to photography students;
  • Maintain and repair Photography Department equipment and instruments, including, but not limited to:Analog Photo equipment such as multi-format film cameras, Enlargers, Film Processing equipment, print washers and dryer, matting equipment. As well as digital assets such as cameras, printers, computers, hard drives, digital copy stand equipment, etc;
  • Calibrate specialized lab printers including wide format printers; identifies the required software and configuration, tests and verifies the configuration in accordance with course requirements.
  • Ensure up-to-date firmware on all digital cameras as updates become available;
  • Collaborate with IT to maintain functional and up-to-date classroom and lab computers and specialize photographic software and drivers. This includes student laptops, desktop computers, inkjet printers, scanners, and digital copy station. Ensure color consistency across all output systems;
  • Maintain specialized photo lighting equipment including various lighting systems (strobes, LEDs etc), light stands, light modifiers, backdrops, etc;
  • Train, Oversee, and Provide Direction to student assistants in various directed projects regarding tasks within the Photography Department and related projects;
  • Organize, file, shelve and maintain equipment in the photography lab;
  • Create and submit requisitions for the purchase of items such as equipment and supplies after conferring with Photography Department faculty/staff and maintain records in assigned database/s;
  • Conduct periodic checks to ascertain the proper working condition of all equipment and, if applicable, troubleshoot and/or initiate and send service requests to repair failing equipment;
  • Maintain and prepare reports of inventory of equipment, including surplus, valuation and retirement of equipment associated with the Photography Department;
  • Work directly with Facilities when necessary to maintain the highest degree of compliance within current safety requirements;
  • Liaison with Facilities staff when moving instruments, and ensure the facility is clean and safe, well maintained mechanically, physically, and technologically;
  • Perform a variety of clerical duties, including, but not limited to: requesting service for office equipment such as printers, copiers, scanners, etc., updating files and records, duplicating and distributing materials, picking up mail, receiving deliveries, processing, and appropriately distributing materials;
  • Maintain inventories of consumable supplies such as chemistry, paper, film, etc;
  • Prepare various chemical solutions for laboratory activities, handle storage and disposal of hazardous materials;
  • Assemble and install new equipment;
  • Create and ensure efficient laboratory systems and operations for both analog and digital processes;
  • Issues and account for the return of instruments and equipment to the Photography Department students, assist in processing billing to students for lost or damaged instruments and/or equipment;
  • Administers the laptop checkout process to students ensuring the proper use and utilization of the hardware and software;
  • Identifies the required software and configuration, tests and verifies the configuration in accordance with course requirements;
  • Maintain digital image database for classes.
  • Provide orientations of the facility and respond to inquiries and requests for information from staff members, students, and the community regarding Photography programs;
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to and respect for the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of the Colleges' students, faculty, staff, and community;
  • Effectively Engage and Support historically disproportionately impacted groups by addressing issues of equity and improving culturally responsive service-oriented practices;
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesKnowledge:

  • Principles of record keeping;
  • Use and maintenance of analog and digital photography instruments and related chemicals;
  • Operational characteristics of apparatus, equipment, and materials used in photography lab preparation and presentation;
  • Modern office procedures, and methods;
  • Basic accounting and record keeping;
  • Computer and photo imaging software applications;
  • Principles of supervision and training.

Skills:

  • Organize and oversee the distribution of position-related documents, photography instruments, and furniture & equipment;
  • Establish, maintain, and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with all those contacted in the course of work;
  • Learn, Interpret, and Apply policies, procedures, rules, and regulations related to the position;
  • Evaluateand Improve processes used in the position and department.

Ability:

  • Prepare and maintain accurate records and inventory of position-related documents, instruments, and furniture & equipment;
  • Effectively Organize multiple tasks;
  • Interact with staff and students from diverse backgrounds with sensitivity;
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing;

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination equivalent to an associate's degree in photography and one-year experience in photo lab. ANDMust have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practices.Desirable Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in photography (BFA) or equivalent and a minimum of three years of experience work in Digital / Analog photography lab.
