Job Title: Marketing & Publishing Coordinator

About Us

American Songwriter is a 40+ year-old music brand dedicated to celebrating the craft of music. We connect artists, songwriters, and fans worldwide through contests, publishing, events, and media.

We’re seeking a Marketing & Publishing Coordinator who can thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and balance creativity with organization. This role blends contest coordination, music publishing support, and marketing outreach—perfect for someone with a foundation in music publishing, a sharp eye for emerging talent, and the ability to stay ahead of industry trends.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the execution and management of music contests, including contestant support, workflow quality control, and technology upkeep.
  • Scout and research artists, producers, and songwriters across all genres worldwide, with targeted outreach goals.
  • Help source and coordinate judges for contests.
  • Help maintain and update music publishing catalogs, song registrations, and copyright documentation.
  • Research and report on current music trends, emerging genres, and rising artists.
  • Support marketing initiatives: copywriting, email campaigns, social media content, graphic design assistance, and membership promotions.
  • Identify and develop strategic partnerships with industry groups, music schools, and brands.
  • Assist in planning and executing third-party/sponsored contests and activations (e.g., festivals, special brand collaborations).
  • Provide administrative support including scheduling, file management, and correspondence.
  • Suggest and implement process improvements to optimize artist/contestant experience and internal workflows.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Music, Marketing, or related field; or 2+ years of relevant industry experience.
  • General knowledge of music publishing, copyright, and the business of songwriting.
  • Strong grasp of current music trends, streaming culture, and audience engagement strategies.
  • Familiarity with data tools, project management platforms (Asana, Hubspot, Slack), and music publishing platforms.
  • Skilled in social media platforms (Instagram, TikTok, Meta, Snapchat) and digital marketing tactics.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; copywriting experience preferred.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and proactive in anticipating needs and meeting deadlines.
  • Graphic design and/or video editing skills are a plus.
  • Must be based in the greater Nashville area.

Ideal Candidate

You’re equally comfortable in a spreadsheet as you are in a Spotify playlist rabbit hole. You understand the fundamentals of music publishing and contests, but you also know what’s trending next. You thrive in creative, fast-moving environments, and you’re passionate about supporting artists, discovering new music, and helping creative projects succeed.
