We have two openings in our rapidly growing company: Assistant designer and Software developer associate. Both are full-time positions in our East Providence, R.I., office.

ASSISTANT DESIGNER

The assistant designer will help design a range of weekly and monthly publications we produce for our clients. These are typically high-end magazine projects or distressed or startup publications that need temporary help stabilizing their print production process. We also redesign print and web media outlets and design a full range of software for media companies, so you'll have an opportunity to work with a wide range of design projects.

This is an opportunity to work with one of the leading design firms in the newspaper industry and work with people who coach other journalists on how to improve their work. We've led thousands of training sessions in 23 countries and have redesigned more than 850 print publications and 1,500 websites. You will learn a lot quickly here and you will also potentially have an impact on the hundreds of family-owned and locally owned media outlets we support.

We’re creating cutting-edge solutions for our clients for both print and digital publishing. Everyone on our team is deeply involved in our success and you will be, too. You will have opportunities to work independently, help shape our product development, work directly with customers and lead projects appropriate to your level of knowledge and interests.

For this role, we are looking for someone with one to three years of print design experience with newspapers or magazines. Accuracy, excellent communication abilities and knowledge of multiple design software platforms (InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator) are required. Problem solving, great customer support and strong initiative are all part of our DNA. Knowledge of HTML, Word and Excel is preferred. Interest or experience in web software or running websites, SEO, reporting, copy editing, photojournalism, social media or newsletters is a plus.

SOFTWARE DEVELOPER ASSOCIATE

We're flexible, but these are kinds the traits and skills we are looking for:

-- 1-3 years experience as a developer.

-- A solid foundation of HTML, CSS.

-- A strong, modern sense of UX design. An appreciation or sensitivity to typography, photography, colors, etc.

-- A quick, eager learner. Willingness to tackle a wide range of tasks. A self-starter.

-- Direct customer support is a big part of all our roles. Our customer base is professional and sophisticated, but demanding. The ability to quickly diagnose and fix minor problems, or make minor code edits, be able to listen and discuss issues with clients in lay terminology, and to stay calm and cool under pressure is important.

-- A good communicator in a team setting.

-- A reliable person who is good at making deadlines. We will need you to take ownership and manage projects with little direction.

-- Knowledge or experience or at least an interest in the news industry, especially newspapers.

-- Experience in a modern library or framework like react or vue.

-- SEO and/or social network marketing experience.

We don’t expect you to know or have worked with all of the above. We’re willing to train you, of course, but the more you know about the above, the better.
