Who We Are Looking For:

The Specifications Writer will collaborate with project managers and project architects to develop comprehensive technical specifications that reflect Populous’ standards of quality and sustainability.

Our preferred candidate will have at least 5 years’ experience in specifications development within the AEC industry, and an interest in working in a dynamic global design environment with a diverse range of public assembly building types, including sports venues, convention centers, and transportation facilities.

What Your Day Could Consist Of:

  • Writing, editing, and coordinating fully integrated Architectural project specifications based on Masterspec formatting and use of CSI numbering systems.
  • Reviewing drawings and other documents to write and edit specifications for projects and coordinate compliance with project requirements, institutional guidelines, Populous standards, technical conditions, acceptable standards, and existing laws, rules, regulations, and codes.
  • Interpreting project design requirements and integrating sustainable design initiatives into specifications.
  • Participate in QA/QC reviews and check on project documents throughout construction phases.
  • Perform product research, assisting project designers and architects with material selection and system research.
  • Propose continual development and improvement of master specifications, also educating team members and mentoring emerging specification writers and architectural staff.


Requirements For Success:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of architectural design, engineering coordination, design trends, products, construction methodology, building systems, material application, and manufacturer-supplier appropriateness.
  • Advanced knowledge of construction procedures and schedules.
  • Understanding of building envelope components, interior plans and material requirements of all building and facility types, preferably for sports, convention centers, aviation, healthcare, higher education, and other large assembly type building specifications.
  • Advanced knowledge of building codes with an ability to research and incorporate findings into technical documents as appropriate.
  • Maintains awareness of industry reference standards and resources.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Proficiency in BLUEBEAM, NewForma and specifications software such as VisiSpecs is preferred.
  • Detail-oriented, learns quickly and adapts to new responsibilities.
  • Highly self-motivated and capable of thriving in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and within a collaborative team.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify areas for process improvement and take initiative to implement solutions that enhance efficiency and effectiveness.


Essential Qualifications:

Required

  • An accredited bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Architecture, Building Engineering or a related field to design and construction of buildings.
  • 5+ years in architectural practice with prior experience in specifications development.
  • Construction Documents Technologist (CDT) certification from the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI).


Preferred

  • Certified Construction Specifier (CCS) certification from CSI.
  • LEED Green or equivalent experience in sustainable design.


Additional details:

  • Requires occasional travel to Kansas City office.


Compensation:

  • The projected salary range for this opportunity is $78,776 - $96,501 annually, and may be more or less depending on skills, experience and education.
