Overview
Reporting to the Head of Elementary, the Music Teacher provides instruction in the technique and theory related to singing and playing certain musical instruments. The teacher also provides instruction in areas such as music theory, creative movement, composition and music appreciation. The expectations and outcomes for a Teacher vary somewhat when the Teacher does not hold full-time responsibility for a classroom and its activities, unless otherwise stated (e.g., lesson plan responsibilities). However, the Teacher is expected to fulfill the role of replacement teacher and/or support teacher in a manner that is exemplary in all areas.
Key Responsibilities and Tasks
#1 – Responsibilities – Classroom
- Fostering and developing a joy and appreciation for music
- Collaborate with a co-teacher and the Integrated Arts Leader to support a robust integrated arts (music focus) program
- Provide students with an educational experience designed to inspire and challenge students to discover the best of who they are and to achieve their full potential
- Ensure a welcoming classroom environment in a manner that reflects the Lauremont School commitment to supporting students and their families, and the motto “I am Known”
- Support the growth and development of individual learners through the delivery of the Montessori philosophy
- Participate actively in faculty and department meetings to plan, review and update the written curriculum
- Establish good relationships with teachers, staff and parents across the school community
- Active and positive participant in the extracurricular and community life of the school
- Co-planning and conducting at musical performances, assemblies and large school events
# 2 – Responsibilities – School Community
- Develop and maintain a standard of professional behaviour, within and beyond the classroom, which exemplifies Montessori and International Baccalaureate principles
- Promote and create a collegial and supportive environment with co-teacher and teachers from other grade levels
- Participate actively in faculty and department meetings to plan, review and update the written curriculum
- Establish and maintain an orderly and attractive school environment in accordance with Montessori and International Baccalaureate principles
- Participate in community activities, related but not limited to, student development, parent education and public relations such as school concerts
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to develop, implement and evaluate school curriculum
- Seek out and participate in co-curricular activities each academic year for the benefit of students and the school community
- Determine and participate in professional development activities to support personal growth as well as the growth and development of the School.
# 3 – Responsibilities – Academic Support
- Fulfill the role of a classroom teacher in the event of a teacher’s absence from his/her assigned classroom
- Provide academic support to students, designated by classroom teachers in consultation with the Academic Head, as needing additional teacher support in a particular area of learning
- Act as a resource for material making in classrooms as designated by the Academic Head

Education/Experience/Qualifications
- Ontario College of Teachers Certification and/or MACTE-approved Montessori Teacher Certification
- Undergraduate Degree in Music
- Additional Qualifications in Music (asset)
- Specialized experience teaching vocal and instrumental music both band (ages 6-12)
- A demonstrated passion for working with children
- Commitment to strong student, teacher and parent relationships
- A history of being an energetic team player committed to the extracurricular life of the School
- Current First Aid, CPR, and AED
