Axiom is looking for a Senior Communication Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support The Office of the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff/Legislative Affairs Office (OCJCS/ LAO) located at the Joint Staff-Pentagon, Washington, DC. This is an on-site position and candidate must have a Secret Clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Provide assistance in identifying communication innovations; improving messaging synchronization and collaboration; and leveraging public media best practices, related to Congressional activities to senior officers on the Joint Staff.
  • Must have a strong grasp on matters of national and international interest that will enhance OJCS decision making.
  • Extensive knowledge regarding political agendas within the Legislative and Executive branches that have DoD equities and have experience advising senior military leaders on the best way to communicate DoD equities throughout the interagency.
  • Help provide guidance in both written and verbal methods to assist Senior leaders in identifying political sensitivities, and guidance with how to navigate these issues. This includes providing a running list of key congressional areas of focus for the Joint Force with anticipated congressional member interest. As well as recommendations for questions and proposed answers that senior leaders should have familiarity with.
  • Ability to provide in person preparation for Senior Leaders in the national security environment, geopolitical domains which includes situational understanding based on experiences from the legislative and executive branches, including support for Senior Leadership testimony to Congressional committees with oversight of the Joint Staff and Department of Defense as required. This includes products like face charts, story boards, placemats, biographies, and various other preparation documents.
  • Provide testimony prep supporting current and nominated Combatant Commanders during the Joint Staff Legislative Affairs confirmation and posture process, including command transition. Also includes Joint Staff leadership testimony to any congressional defense oversight Committee.
Qualifications
  • Bachelors in English, Communications, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience providing communications support to sensitive and high-profile programs and topics, preferably with DoD.
  • Must have experience working with the Joint Staff or providing advising assistance to senior leaders on the Joint Staff or in a joint manner through Combatant Commands.
  • Expert knowledge, skill, and ability to write, edit, and revise documents that are tailored for the highest levels of the U.S. Government, to include the President, Secretary and Deputy Secretary of Defense, the National Security Council, the Homeland Security Council, four-star generals, and Congress.
  • Excellent communications skills, strong attention to detail and an eye for consistency with demonstrated success working in fast-paced and challenging environments.
  • Must hold Secret Clearance
