About the Position
The County of San Luis Obispo Public Libraries is seeking to fill a full-time Senior Library Associate position at the San Miguel Library to join our team and play a vital role in delivering high-quality library services to our diverse community.

This position has sole responsibility for daily operations at the San Miguel Library. Duties include circulating library materials; assisting customers with technology and materials selection; and developing, promoting, and overseeing library programs. Additionally, the Senior Library Associate works collaboratively with their regional librarian and community organizations to provide outreach throughout the community of San Miguel.
The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, be self-motivated, and enjoy working with the public. Must have the ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining regular communication with the regional librarian regarding activities and challenges.

Spanish bilingual skills required.

Will be required to work at least two days per week at the Atascadero Library. Evenings and Saturdays are required.

Under general supervision, may be in charge of a functional unit of the library supervising clerical staff or operating a small branch library and does other related work as required.
The Ideal Candidate
Education and Experience
A combination of education, training, and experience resulting in the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. An example of qualifying education and experience includes:

Possession of a Certificate of Proficiency in library studies from an accredited institution and one year of full-time library para-professional experience; OR the equivalent of three years of progressively responsible full time library para-professional experience.
Licenses and Certificates
A valid driver's license is required at the time of application. A valid CALIFORNIA driver license is required at the time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment.

Pension Benefit and Employee Contribution Rates:
The County's pension is a defined benefit plan that provides a guaranteed monthly pension payment for life based on your time in service, wages, and other factors. The County is the primary contributor to the pension fund, but the health of the pension fund also depends on mandatory employee contributions. Employees are required to pay a percentage of their base pay towards the pension fund, ranging from 5% to 19%. This amount is deducted from your paycheck pre-tax every pay period. Healthcare Benefits and Cafeteria Contributions:
The County offers comprehensive medical coverage to you and your family, along with two dental plan options and vision coverage. All permanent employees receive a monthly employer contribution (or 'cafeteria' contribution) to help them pay for their portion of the medical, dental, and vision insurance premiums. The amount of the cafeteria contribution varies by Bargaining Unit (BU) and the extent to which employees enroll their dependents. If the cafeteria amount is greater than your selected premiums, the remainder of the cafeteria is paid out to you in your paycheck as taxable income.
