JOB SUMMARY
Under minimal supervision, the Telephone Communication Coordinator serves at a centralized location within UT Southwestern hospital and clinic facilities, facilitating and coordinating telephone communication. This role is pivotal in ensuring smooth communication flow by efficiently processing incoming, outgoing, and inter-departmental telephone and paging traffic. The incumbent will handle various tasks including call routing, paging, providing information to callers, and supporting emergency code. alerts. Please note work shift: Sunday - Wednesday, 8:30pm to 6:00am. This position is primarily remote with occasional on campus meetings or training.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Required

  • Education
    High School Diploma Or GED
  • Experience
    1 year Customer service experience and
    Minimum typing/keyboarding speed of 35 WPM required. and

Preferred

  • Experience
    1 year Clerical/administrative experience and
    Experience in a healthcare environment
    Proficiency in one or more languages in addition to English, preferred.


JOB DUTIES

  • Responsible for calls received at the switchboard. Utilizing reference materials to correctly route callers to appropriate person/department/patient room.
  • Responsible for paging throughout the facility, including mobile devices, manual paging, and paging through computer messaging system for physicians and staff.
  • Provides check outs, pager reassignments, and places long distance calls for physicians.
  • Provides after hours answering service for all UTSW clinics including documenting telephone encounters in EPIC, and paging appropriate "on calls".
  • Prescreens potential tissue donors for Transplant Services by entering in national database.
  • Provides campus information, including mailing addresses, directions, and visiting hours to callers.
  • Maintains appropriate logs and records in accordance with established policies.
  • Provides access to telephonic interpreter services for callers with limited English proficiency.
  • Provides support for the emergency patient code alert operation.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
