JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Staff the law library reference desk according to a weekly reference schedule during evening and/or weekend hours. Rarely and irregularly staff daytime, weekday hours. Provide a wide range of reference and specialized research assistance, including referring patrons to legal research resources appropriate to their needs, providing instruction in the use of such resources, and offering information about alternative resources as necessary. Services are provided to law students, faculty, the university community, the legal community, and the public in person, over the phone, and via email or other electronic communication.
  2. Create, revise, and update research guides, bibliographies, and other law library publications and web content as needed.
  3. Participate in or complete projects supporting reference, research, or instructional needs, such as collection development, maintenance projects, or research instruction sessions.
  4. Collaborate in developing, evaluating, and implementing reference goals, policies, procedures, and services as needed.

OTHER EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program combined with knowledge of legal bibliography and research techniques in multiple formats. Current enrollment in an ALA-accredited MLS program is sufficient if the candidate possesses a Juris Doctorate.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of online legal research systems (e.g., Bloomberg Law, Vital Law, Fastcase, HeinOnline, Lexis, Westlaw) as well as web-based and print legal research materials.
  • Strong service orientation and ability to work with a diverse patron population.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Flexibility and the ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications.
  • Effective communication skills in English, both oral and written.
