We are looking for a self-motivated, passionate, and resourceful Applied Scientist experienced in Recommender Systems, Search Ranking, or Ads Ranking. You will be a hands-on machine learning practitioner and research leader, building and guiding models from scratch. Your contributions will benefit millions of Amazon customers worldwide.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop ML models for recommendation & search systems using deep learning, online learning, and optimization techniques.
  • Collaborate with scientists, engineers, and product managers to deepen product insights with data, and design experiments to identify high-impact projects.
  • Stay current with advancements and new modeling techniques in the field.
  • Publish research findings in top conferences and journals.

A day in the life

We use advanced approaches like foundation models to connect video and customer data from diverse sources, enabling effective recommendations even with limited behavioral signals. This helps discover niche interests and new titles for our customers. You will be a research leader and hands-on practitioner, guiding talented engineers and scientists, and publishing your work internally and externally.

About The Team

The Prime Video Recommendation/Search Science team develops science solutions for search relevance, ranking, and sourcing, working closely with engineering teams to deploy solutions in production.

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience building models for business applications.
  • PhD or Master’s degree with 4+ years in CS, CE, ML, or related fields.
  • Proficiency in Java, C++, Python, or similar languages.
  • Experience in algorithms, data structures, parsing, optimization, data mining, parallel/distributed/high-performance computing.

Preferred:

  • Unix/Linux experience.
  • Professional software development experience.
