Preferred Qualifications Role Purpose As the first responders in the Department of Public Safety, Communication Officers receive, evaluate, prioritize, and relay calls for emergency and non-emergency public safety assistance; coordinate emergency response teams; maintain, process, and distribute records; manage and operate a variety of telecommunications equipment; and perform a broad range of specialized clerical tasks related to hospital operations. Responsibilities Manage and respond to public safety radio system(s), telephone, EVERBIDGE Notifications (including infant abductions, missing patients, catastrophic events on campus and in the surrounding area), parking intercom, emergency alert systems, HUGS alarm (infant abduction system), fire alarms, Stanley personal staff duress alarms, stationary panic/duress alarms, shuttle monitoring, technical electronic support, support of BJC West County officers, PCDC support, Barnes Jewish Psychiatric Stabilization Center (PSC), Evelyns House, and other outside BJC/BJH partners, maintaining outside vendor work and permits. Perform crisis intervention over the telephone. Utilize the computer-aided dispatch system to conduct in-depth interviews, gather and process information to dispatch public safety officers, and maintain records of campus incidents in the Public Safety Global Dispatch system. Manage and understand emergency procedures related to situations involving the public safety department, ensuring activation of other entities (fire department, code team, DPS officers, police, EMS, etc.). Ensure campus safety by familiarizing with Public Safety operations and knowing the location and layout of streets, buildings, parks, and other areas on and around the medical campus to increase dispatch accuracy and efficiency.
