This role will be based in our Charlottesville, Falls Church, or Richmond offices.

Salary Note

The salary scale for this position is $59,225.00 - $76,992.50 based on years of relevant experience and LAJCs formal salary scale. An upward 12% cost-of-living adjustment ($66,332.00 to $86,231.60) is available for positions based in Falls Church. To allow for salary growth over time, the anticipated hiring range is between $59,225.00 - $68,108.75 ($66,332.00 - $76,281.00 with 12% adjustment for Falls Church). Placement on the range depends on experience, budget, and internal equity.

About The Legal Aid Justice Center

The Legal Aid Justice Center (LAJC) is a nationally recognized, non-profit organization partnering with low-income clients and communities of color in Virginia to fight for racial, social, and economic justice. Founded in 1967, LAJC has offices in Charlottesville, Richmond, Petersburg, and Falls Church. We provide services across six key areas: Civil Rights & Racial Justice, Housing & Consumer Justice, Youth Justice, Health Justice & Public Benefits, Immigrant Justice, and Worker Justice. Our recent work includes reforms to Virginias unemployment insurance system, eviction moratoriums during the pandemic, and reducing incarceration rates, including at immigration detention centers. With over 90 staff members, LAJC is experiencing growth and expanding its efforts in community organizing, litigation, policy advocacy, and organizational capacity building.

About The Position

LAJC seeks a Communications Manager to support our efforts in advancing economic, social, and racial justice. The role involves managing social media, developing advocacy and media relations strategies, maintaining website content, managing email communications, supporting fundraising efforts, and promoting racial equity within the organization and community. The ideal candidate has experience with advocacy campaigns, media interaction, digital content creation, storytelling, and working with diverse communities through a racial equity lens.

Job Duties
  • Plan and manage social media accounts to expand reach and engagement, analyzing data to improve outcomes.
  • Develop and execute communications plans in collaboration with program teams to support advocacy campaigns.
  • Develop press strategies, maintain media contacts, and track media mentions.
  • Create and update website content in coordination with staff.
  • Manage email communications and marketing calendars.
  • Produce written materials for fundraising, such as reports and brochures.
  • Support communications training and onboarding for staff.
  • Promote racial equity by fostering inclusive recruitment, supporting staff of color, creating discussion spaces, and pushing for institutional change.

Additional Details

Location: Based in Charlottesville, Falls Church, or Richmond with occasional travel. Remote work options available.

Salary: $66,332.00 - $86,231.60, with a typical range of $66,332.00 - $76,281.00, depending on experience and internal factors.
