Interim Director of Grants May Institute is seeking an experienced Director of Grants to provide critical support during a period of organizational growth and transition. This role, in partnership with the Senior Director of Philanthropy is responsible for maintaining grant operations. The Director of Grants will align fundraising efforts with strategic priorities, connecting our work with the priorities of foundations, government agencies, and philanthropic institutions. As the organization's dedicated grants lead, this position will play a pivotal role in expanding institutional support and meeting comprehensive revenue goals. Key ResponsibilitiesGrant ManagementDevelop and implement an organization-wide grant strategy to attract and grow foundation, government, and institutional support. Collaborate with leadership across the organization to understand program needs and develop fundable project concepts. Cultivate, manage, and steward a portfolio of existing funders, ensuring strong relationships and ongoing alignment with May Institute's mission. Research and identify prospective funding opportunities aligned with May Institute's mission and priorities.Write compelling grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and related materials tailored to funder guidelines.Manage submission calendars and track deadlines to ensure timely submissions.Prepare and submit interim and final reports for awarded grants, in collaboration with program and finance staff.Ensure all awarded grants are managed effectively, including budget oversight, compliance, and reporting in partnership with the Finance team and program staff. Partner with internal teams to gather data, stories, and impact metrics for use in proposals and reports.Provide recommendations to strengthen May's overall grant strategy and systems.Development Operations Work collaboratively with the Database Manager to ensure accurate documentation, fund designation, and timely acknowledgement of gifts. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of proposals, awards, and reporting requirements in the Raiser's Edge donor database.Participate in departmental cross training to develop a functional knowledge of Raiser's Edge ensuring redundancy of key skills within the department. Support the Senior Director of Philanthropy in other fundraising initiatives as needed. Assist with the planning and execution of the organization's annual gala as needed, and attend the event to engage donors and volunteers. Required Qualifications Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in grant management or institutional fundraising, with a successful record of securing major grants at the five- and six- figure levels. Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills.Experience developing project budgets and tracking expenses against grant requirements. Comfortable working across departments and translating programmatic work into funder-friendly language. Familiarity with fundraising CRMs (preferably Raiser's Edge) Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and in compliance with HIPAA regulations and organizational privacy policies. Ability to manage multiple projects with attention to detail and deadlines in a complex organization. Strong organizational and time management skills. Excellent computer skills with proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc. Flexibility to work some evenings Fosters a culture of collaboration, mutual respect, and teamwork.
