GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB

The City of South Fulton is seeking a highly skilled and innovative Senior Creative Manager with a strong foundation in graphic design to lead the visual identity and creative direction of the citys communications. This position places design first, requiring advanced technical expertise in layout, branding, and visual storytelling using tools such as Adobe InDesign, Canva, and the Adobe Creative Suite. The ideal candidate will have a keen eye for design and extensive experience producing high-quality flyers, reports, brochures, annual publications, and digital content for government audiences. In addition to hands-on creative work, this individual will provide strategic guidance and supervision to a small team of communications professionals, supporting content development, messaging, and campaign planning across city departments. Candidates must have prior experience in local government communications and a portfolio that demonstrates both design excellence and practical application in the public sector.

Essential Functions

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Creative Leadership & Strategy

  • Supervise and inspire a multidisciplinary team of communications professionals, including writers, designers, and media specialists.
  • Lead the development and execution of comprehensive communications plans that support city priorities, programs, and events.
  • Ensure brand consistency, visual quality, and messaging alignment across all city communications channels and materials.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with city departments, elected officials, and external partners to elevate the city's public engagement.

Graphic Design & Content Development

  • Serve as the lead designer for high-impact creative assets including flyers, social media graphics, city signage, annual books, program guides, reports, and event branding.
  • Create visually engaging and brand-aligned materials for digital and print distribution.
  • Maintain and evolve the citys visual identity, ensuring professional and modern aesthetics throughout all public-facing content.
  • Must have advanced proficiency in Adobe InDesign, Canva, and the full Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat, etc.).

Editorial Oversight & Quality Assurance

  • Edit and approve written and visual content for clarity, accuracy, and adherence to city style and voice.
  • Review and finalize deliverables to ensure high production quality and timely completion.

Project Management & Workflow Optimization

  • Oversee multiple projects simultaneously, balancing short deadlines with long-term strategic deliverables.
  • Manage creative timelines, delegate tasks, and liaise with vendors and contractors as necessary.
  • Use project management tools to track progress, maintain transparency, and meet deadlines.

Minimum Education And Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in graphic design, Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience, with at least 3 years in a local government setting.
  • Proven experience managing or leading a creative or communications team.
  • Must have hands-on experience using Adobe InDesign, Canva, and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating high-quality design work for government or public-facing audiences.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and visual communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with web content management systems and project management software (e.g., Monday, Asana).
  • Ability to design for multicultural or multilingual audiences.
  • Familiarity with city council communications, municipal branding standards, and community outreach campaigns.

Working Conditions

  • This position will require occasional travel and the ability to work some evenings or weekends, particularly around key events, or to meet significant deadlines.
