Senior Packaging Designer - Action Figures

The Senior Packaging Designer will collaborate with the packaging design team across multiple designated brands in designing cost-effective, attractive, functional, and safe packaging for our consumer products. They are responsible for assisting in the conceptualization, design, and execution of prototypes for attention-grabbing packaging materials, using design elements such as shape, color, graphics, and typography to create packaging that resonates with our target markets. In this role, you will influence all consumer-facing design initiatives in our packaging department for assigned brands. Senior Packaging Designers also act as a support for the packaging design manager and senior leadership within the team, and as a mentor and trainer for junior staff.

What You Will Do

  • Support the Packaging Design Manager throughout the design process, including brainstorming, design, prototype development, and production.
  • Develop innovative packaging design systems that are functional, aesthetically pleasing, and maintain brand integrity to meet packaging objectives.
  • Evaluate packaging designs for fit, structure, function, suitable materials, quality, cost-effectiveness, manufacturability, transportation, industry best practices, and brand standards.
  • Assess consumer and market trends for packaging materials.
  • Manage timeline requirements and maintain schedules to support production.
  • Create sketches, detailed drawings, and artwork using Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Collaborate across departments to develop and implement strategies across product lines.
  • Provide project updates to both national and international teams.
  • Attend meetings with cross-functional departments regularly.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to produce functional yet eye-catching products.
  • Brainstorm packaging ideas using sketches, verbal cues, words, and design software.
  • Ensure packaging designs accurately represent the company's brand.
  • Create or modify packaging die line templates.
  • Complete final mock-up designs using computer modeling software.
  • Prepare submissions for licensor approval.
  • Follow workflow and sign-off protocols to ensure error-free final deliverables.
  • Prepare final files for production, working with the production team on Pantone matching, proofing, etc.
  • Approve print proofs and samples (FEPs) before production.
  • Organize and maintain project and digital archives.
  • Manage the design and development process to meet deadlines and deliverables.
  • Oversee various packaging projects and coordinate with outside vendors as needed.
  • Ensure cohesion between packaging materials and the aesthetics and functionality of the final product.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Act as a mentor and trainer for junior staff.
  • What We Are Looking For:

  • Bachelor's degree in graphic design, art, industrial design, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in packaging design, preferably within the consumer products industry.
  • Experience with toy or action figures packaging is a plus.
  • Experience working with style guides and creating original artwork.
  • Strong graphic design skills with a focus on innovation and creativity.
  • Conceptual skills and effective communication abilities.
  • Knowledge of printing processes, including color management, die lines, and file formats.
  • Understanding of print expectations, including bleeds, die lines, resolution, etc.
  • Interest in current trends and innovations in the toy industry.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, G-Suite, and Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign).
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments.
  • Self-motivated with good project management skills.
  • Knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience working with licensed brands.
  • Ability to multitask, organize, prioritize, and manage time efficiently.
  • Strong aesthetic sense and attention to detail.
  • Proactive problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Working Conditions

  • Office environment.
  • No extreme exposures.
  • Regular schedule with occasional meetings outside of regular hours, possibly with Asian offices.
  • Physical requirement: Lift up to 25 lbs.
  • No travel required.
