The Communications Specialist will play a pivotal role in shaping and maintaining ODL’s brand voice across various platforms. This role is responsible for creating, managing, and distributing internal and external communications materials, building relationships with media outlets, supporting internal communication efforts, and assisting in crisis communication. The Communications Specialist will ensure that all messaging is aligned with the company’s values, mission, and goals while also supporting event coordination and support managing ODL’s messaging.

What You'll Do

  • Write, edit, and distribute communications materials such as press releases, newsletters, blog posts, and social media content.
  • Ensure all communications align with the company’s brand voice and messaging across all platforms.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining relationships with media outlets, journalists, and influencers.
  • Monitor media coverage and manage media inquiries, including coordinating interviews and requests.
  • Develop and implement internal communication strategies to keep employees informed about company updates and initiatives.
  • Manage internal communication channels, including intranet sites, email blasts, and quarterly company-wide meetings.
  • Ensure timely and accurate communication to internal and external audiences.
  • Assist in the preparation of communication materials during crises or sensitive issues.
  • Maintain consistency in messaging across all departments, ensuring alignment with the company’s values, mission, and goals.
  • Support the planning and execution of corporate events, including product launches, quarterly communications meetings, and tradeshows.
  • Develop and manage communication materials related to these events.
  • Assist in managing the company’s social media presence, including creating content and engaging with followers.
  • Monitor social media channels to identify potential issues or opportunities for engagement.
  • Travel: Up to 20% anticipated, mainly local (community events), with attendance to the International Builders Show annually (out of state).

What You'll Need

  • 2-4 years of experience in communications, public relations, or a related field.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, English, or a related field.
  • Strong content creation and writing skills, with proficiency in creating and editing press releases, newsletters, blogs, and social media posts.
  • Experience with media relations, including building relationships with media contacts and managing press inquiries.
  • Proven ability to develop and execute internal communication plans, including writing for internal audiences and managing intranet content.
  • Familiarity with digital communication tools, such as CMS platforms, email marketing tools (e.g., Hubspot), and social media management tools.
  • Experience handling crisis communications, including drafting statements and coordinating messaging with stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in presentation tools like PowerPoint and basic project management skills
