Job Description

Salary :

The Design Engineer III is responsible for designing fire protection systems, ensuring quality and compliance, and coordinating with cross-functional teams and customers.

Role and Responsibilities

• Design moderately complex fire sprinkler systems
• Produce hydraulic calculations and system sizing for projects
• Collaborate with sales, purchasing, fabrication, installation, and service teams to meet customer needs, quality, safety standards, and project timelines
• Coordinate with engineers, contractors, and AJHs independently
• Ensure design adherence to state and local standards for water-based fire sprinkler systems
• Use CAD software for fire protection system design
• Conduct site reviews or surveys on buildings as needed
• Submit plans to general contractors/owners and follow specifications
• Finalize fabrication techniques with stakeholders
• Complete shop drawings with all pertinent information
• Generate material lists for designs
• Compile the foreman's pack, including forms and paperwork
• Process close-out documents
• Mentor and review work of Level I and II designers

Qualifications and Education Requirements

• NICET III certification and/or 5+ years of fire sprinkler design experience
• Knowledge of NFPA standards 13, 13R, 13D, 14, 20, 22, and 25
• Ability to interpret complex code requirements
• Experience with CAD platforms such as AutoCAD, Revit, BIM 360, Inventor, SolidWorks, Hydra CAD, AutoSPRINK, SprinkCAD, or SprinkFIT
• Ability to complete BIM coordination
• Strong mathematical skills, including geometry and measurements
• Ability to read blueprints, codes, standards, and safety instructions
• Analytical and critical thinking skills
• Effective communication skills
• Time management and organizational skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

Physical Demands

Frequent sitting, standing, communication, reaching, and manipulation of objects. Minimal physical exertion required.

Working Conditions

Typical office environment with possible exposure to noise on job sites. Commitment to safety, health, and environmental policies is required.
