Essential Duties/Major Responsibilities:
The Librarian I at MCPL provides reference, readers advisory, and general assistance to support the mission, vision, and values of Montgomery County Public Libraries.
Under supervision, the Librarian I will:
- Promote and support MCPL’s DEI values, centering the experiences of marginalized communities in programming, partnerships, and information services.
- Provide professional librarian assistance in person, by telephone, or chat to teens in locating print and electronic resources.
- Plan and present programs for specific age groups.
- Assist in weeding and merchandising library materials.
- Recommend titles for purchase or replacement.
- Provide one-on-one computer instruction and assistance.
- Participate in committees and workgroups for projects and initiatives.
Hours for this position:
- Library hours include 7 days a week, evenings, days, and weekends. Employees must be available during these times, with schedules varying based on branch needs.
Education: Master's degree in library science or library information science from an ALA-accredited institution. Candidates working toward the degree will be considered, with official transcripts required before employment begins.
Experience: None required.
Licensure: Employees must maintain appropriate Continuing Education Units to meet state licensure requirements.
