POSITION: Help Desk Services Specialist (00843A) – Library Specialist I – Full-time
LOCATION: Old Dominion University Libraries, Norfolk, VA 23529

The position provides library services to users of the Perry and Music Libraries. In addition to serving users, the position supports operations such as contributing to reports, policies, procedures, and hiring, training, and supervising student assistants.
Required Qualifications
- Demonstrated knowledge of effective customer service and problem resolution techniques
- Problem solving and critical thinking skills
- Skills in word processing and spreadsheet applications
- Effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
- Time management and organizational skills to meet deadlines
- Ability to work well independently and in diverse team environments
- Ability to follow and interpret policies and procedures in detailed work
- Experience with Microsoft Office applications, especially Word and Excel
- Customer service experience in a busy public setting
- Experience with reporting statistics
- Leadership and supervisory experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a library
- Knowledge of library systems, services, and organization
- Experience with integrated library systems and circulation functions
- Experience with media equipment
- Experience in higher education
- Knowledge of Library of Congress classification system
- Supervisory experience
