Deputy Bailiff Court Reporter

Summary
The Court Reporter is responsible for the accurate and detailed recording and transcription of court proceedings.
Examples of Duties

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following: (Other duties may be assigned.)

  1. Prompt attendance at all scheduled court assignments.
  2. Accurately record verbatim stenograph proceedings at 225 wpm.
  3. Read back requested text during court proceedings.
  4. Read steno note files into the Computer Aided Transcription (CAT) system from Data SD memory card.
  5. Maintain daily copies of docket sheets.
  6. Secure and file all exhibits marked and admitted into evidence in court proceedings.
  7. Prepare transcripts upon request of the Court, all parties, and pro se litigants according to established procedures.
  8. Edit and proofread all transcripts to ensure record accuracy.
  9. Verify the accuracy of citations and read from source books quotations cited in typed transcripts.
  10. Invoice all parties requesting transcripts where applicable.
  11. Provide quality service that continuously improves, meets or exceeds public expectations, and ensures all are treated with courtesy, dignity, and respect.
Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge, qualifications, skills, and abilities

  1. Knowledge of generally accepted office practices, procedures, and equipment; proper English usage, grammar, vocabulary, and spelling; legal and specialized terminology; and courtroom procedures.
  2. Good written and verbal communication skills.
  3. Ability to organize and prioritize workload and meet deadlines.
  4. Ability to operate and learn necessary computer and other equipment.

Education and/or Experience

Associate’s Degree in Court and Conference Reporting or Court Reporter Certificate. Two years of court reporting experience. Registered Professional Reporter (RPR) certification preferred.

Court Expectations of Employee

Employees are expected to adhere to the mission and values of the Court, all policies and procedures, and to model high ethical conduct and professionalism at all times. Qualified applicants may need to submit to testing, provide writing samples, and pass a criminal record check and drug test. Employment is probationary for the first 180 days.
