Senior Digital UX Engineer (Front-End) with React.js – Charlotte, NC

Pay Rate: $66/hour, 40 hours/week with an opportunity to convert to a full-time employee.

Role: Contractor (not C2C 1099)

Location: Onsite - must reside in the Charlotte area and be able to commute to Charlotte HQ in Uptown.

Duration: October 1, 2025, to April 1, 2026

The Senior Digital UX Engineer (Front-End) drives user-centered design improvements for our client’s customers and business groups. This role collaborates with cross-functional UX squads throughout the digital product lifecycle to build innovative and meaningful solutions that enhance customer experience. The UX Engineer applies pragmatic, systems thinking to front-end development, focusing on inclusive experiences and clean, responsible code.

The UX Engineer is a front-end developer with a strong design skillset, proficient in web accessibility, performance, and building design systems or component libraries.

Our client’s team primarily uses React.js. While knowledge of other modern JavaScript frameworks is beneficial, expertise in React.js is essential. The role also requires expert-level skills in CSS using SCSS/SASS. Knowledge of CSS frameworks like Tailwind or Bootstrap is not required.

This role involves code review, providing technical guidance to junior engineers, and leading prototyping efforts.

Responsibilities:

• Lead front-end development to ensure maintainable, scalable, and accessible HTML, CSS, and TypeScript/JavaScript
• Lead design system documentation and maintenance
• Oversee code testing for visual, unit, and integration tests
• Set and enforce front-end code quality standards via reviews
• Collaborate with partners to support the design system’s implementation
• Mentor junior staff
• Lead Agile ceremonies such as stand-ups, backlog refinement, and retrospectives
• Maintain the development architecture for the design system and prototypes
• Prioritize development tasks for the design system and prototypes
• Ensure the long-term success of the design system and front-end prototypes

Requirements:

• High School Diploma/GED and at least 12 years of related experience or education in front-end development

Skills:

• Strong systems thinking and problem-solving skills for UI pattern development
• Ability to collaborate with designers and cross-functional teams
• Experience working within Agile/Scrum/Kanban/SAFe methodologies
• Understanding of accessibility standards (WCAG)
• Expertise in at least one modern JavaScript framework/library (e.g., React, Vue, Angular)
• Expertise in semantic HTML, scalable CSS, and JavaScript
• Expertise in CSS preprocessors (SASS/SCSS)
• Knowledge of CSS methodologies like BEM, ITCSS, OOCSS
• Experience with CSS build tools and design system asset delivery
• Experience with CI/CD workflows
• Experience consuming REST or GraphQL APIs
• Experience with build automation and package managers
• Familiarity with design tools like Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD
• Interest or experience with web components
• Strong cross-browser testing skills
• Deep understanding of modern CSS layout techniques
• Excellent communication skills
