Communications And External Affairs Liaison

The Bureau of Public Health Clinics (BPHC), under the division of Disease Control, oversees the City's four tuberculosis clinics and eight sexual health clinics. The mission of BPHC is to promote a healthy community by providing New Yorkers with the resources needed to make informed and empowered health decisions; identify and treat tuberculosis and provide immunization and sexual health services regardless of ability to pay or immigration status. The Community Coordinator/Communications & External Affairs Liaison will report to the Policy Coordinator as a member of the Policy and Programs team. Duties will include but not be limited to: Monitor and coordinate approval and distribution of NYC DOHMH public-facing information about BPHC programs and services. Strategize and draft marketing materials including web and social content, flyers, reports, and talking points. Serve as liaison with Director of External Affairs for Division of Disease Control. Collaborate with the Community Engagement team to develop public facing educational and outreach materials. Collaborate with BPHC internal disciplines to develop and/or shepherd patient educational and outreach materials. Identify and report on metrics to measure the effectiveness of communications strategies. Monitor and track social media engagement. Coordinate with BPHC internal units or subject matter experts on messaging content. Serve as primary liaison with the agency and division offices of Communications and External Affairs. Liaise with various Divisions and Divisional leads to align shared messaging about BPHC programs and services. Liaise with Divisional and agency External Affairs and Communications units. Assure timely submission of Communications Project Requests (CPR) and other ad hoc BPHC communication needs. Assure that patient and public facing communication and messaging adheres to local language access policies. Create or review all public facing communications, including production of patient materials for BPHC clinics. Develop content for posting on various digital media outlets. Create content for the agencies social media channels to increase social media engagement. Develop and provide support for communication strategies to promote new initiatives and current services offered at Health Department clinics. With input from leadership, draft and implement BPHC's external initiatives and strategies. Perform assignments and other duties as assigned. Preferred Skills: Bachelor's degree required, master's degree preferred, in communications, marketing, public relations, or related field. Experience in public health, policy, or related field. Demonstrable creativity and documented experience in designing and implementing successful campaigns. Strong knowledge of anti-racism, gender equity, intersectionality, and trauma informed principles. Values teamwork and collaboration. Values innovation and out of the box thinking understanding limitations. Proven ability to plan and implement programs with quantifiable results. Track record of working effectively with diverse stakeholders. Excellent oral, presentation and written communication skills required. Self-starter and ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively in multi-disciplinary teams. Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel. Fluency in other languages other than English is a plus.
