User Experience Designer Intern (Summer 2026) - St. Louis, MO

The Hubbell Internship Program is a 10 to 12-week program providing students the opportunity to gain corporate experience, learn about all aspects of our business, and prepare students with the kind of experience needed to have a rewarding career at Hubbell.

For this internship, the student will work as part of a team that applies a User Centric Design process to the development of enterprise software, services, and solutions. The student will enable user experience to be a competitive differentiator for Aclara, and provide product usability, evaluation and support to product development teams.

A Day In The Life

  • Managing multiple projects with overlapping tasks and working independently with minimal supervision.
  • Providing support and assistance to co-workers as appropriate.

Essential Functions:

  • Work closely with Aclara product managers and product owners to understand desired application capabilities.
  • Perform assigned tasks to conduct user research including techniques such as user interviews, task analysis, usability testing, surveys, A/B testing, site analytics, and user personas to understand user behavior and validate solutions with the guidance of more senior team members.
  • Use modern UX design tools for product design communication and for developer handoff.
  • Effectively communicate UI designs and requirements to engineering for development.
  • Perform assigned tasks to define new UI requirements and wireframes with guidance from more senior team members.
  • Understand and estimate how selected tasks will impact established quantitative and qualitative metrics to measure improvement in user experience.
What Will Help You Thrive In This Role?
  • Enrollment in an accredited university working towards a Bachelor's or Master's Degree related to the internship (required)
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA (required)
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products preferred.
  • Familiarity with relevant software and systems.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Required:

  • Working towards a Bachelor's Degree in Interaction Design, Human Factors, Psychology, Usability Engineering Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), or equivalent
  • Proficiency with UX prototyping tools and methodologies
  • Proficient in Figma and Figjam
  • Proficiency with usability principles, web standards, and UI patterns.
  • Familiar with human factors principles and proficiency with various UX research methods including user personas, user flows and usability testing.

Preferred:

  • Working towards Master's Degree in Interaction Design, Human Factors, Psychology, Usability Engineering, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), or equivalent
  • Agile software development methodology experience
  • Experience in applying user centric design to the development of B2B software applications

Physical Demand:

  • Frequent sitting and walking.
  • Normal office and laboratory activities.
  • Limited travel, as need.

Expectations: The intern will be expected to work full-time at 40 hours/week and will be compensated on an hourly basis. Compensation Range: $22.50/hour - $29.00/hour (dependent upon graduation date)
