Job Responsibilities Part-Time/Temporary, Library Technical Assistant, 20 hours/week at $20/hour, USCA Gregg-Graniteville Library
Under the supervision of the Access Services and Government Information Librarian, the part-time library assistant works in coordination with other library staff to manage the day-to-day operation of the library's Access Services Department. The library assistant provides clerical support, supervision of student workers, and public service to both members of the USCA campus and broader community. Position helps provide service desk and building coverage during library hours and is responsible for exceptional customer service. This 20-hour position includes a mix of daytime, evening, and weekend hours. Some scheduling flexibility is available, as hours are coordinated across a team. Essential Job Duties Provide Reference assistance to users: Answer questions making referrals to professional staff as appropriate; instruct patrons in use of library materials and equipment; assist patrons in locating and retrieving materials. Perform all duties and activities of the Access Services Department; problem resolution; charging/discharging materials; collection of fines; interpretation of policies; maintenance of photocopiers and printers; issuance of loan privilege cards Performs opening and closing procedures. Perform shelving and collection maintenance. Responsible for oversight of the library building in the absence of the Access Services Manager, Administrative Assistant or Supervisor. Provides guidance and training for student workers in collaboration with library staff.
Bachelor's degree or high school diploma with 4 years of library work experience required. Additional skills/abilities needed: basic data entry and/or word processing skills; aptitude for accuracy and detail; ability to carry out detailed procedures and work independently in a team environment; excellent organizational skills; good oral and written communication skills; ability to push/pull up to 40 lbs. of library materials/equipment in a cart/dolly; lift, stretch, bend to retrieve and/or shelve library materials.
