Transportation Department Position Summary
The Part-Time Radio Dispatcher is responsible for monitoring and coordinating radio communications between school buses, transportation staff, and school facilities to ensure safe, efficient, and timely transportation services for students. This position serves as the primary point of contact for bus drivers and transportation personnel during assigned shifts. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Operate two-way radio equipment to communicate with bus drivers, transportation supervisors, and school administrators. Receive and relay messages promptly, accurately, and professionally. Monitor bus routes for delays, accidents, weather-related issues, or other emergencies, and dispatch assistance as needed. Maintain accurate records of radio communications, incidents, and route changes. Assist with tracking and updating bus route schedules in coordination with the transportation office. Respond to calls from schools, parents, and drivers regarding transportation matters and direct them to the appropriate personnel. Follow established safety protocols and emergency procedures. Assist transportation staff with clerical tasks when radio traffic is low. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. Prior experience in dispatch, communications, or transportation preferred. Familiarity with radio communication procedures and equipment desirable. Strong verbal communication and listening skills. Ability to multitask and remain calm under pressure. Basic computer skills and ability to maintain accurate logs and records. Knowledge of Pulaski County geography is a plus. Working Conditions Primarily office-based in the Transportation Department. Frequent use of radio, telephone, and computer systems. Must be able to sit for extended periods and respond quickly to situations as they arise. Salary and Benefits Hourly rate commensurate with experience. 10 Month School Office Assistant Scale https://www.pcva.us/o/pcva/page/hr-salary-scales-2025-2026 Part-time position; 181 Day Contract per school year, not eligible for benefits
