The Opportunity
Blue Ridge School is an all-boys, all-boarding college-preparatory school serving 180 students on a 751-acre campus situated along the eastern slope of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The
Campus Communications Officer (CCO)
is a full-time, professional employee responsible for several parts of two core duties in support of Blue Ridge School’s admission and advancement goals: Be the storyteller about the boys and the School, through design and successful implementation of communications tactics which feature day-to-day and week-to-week activities on campus. Frequently report on the impact of these communication activities using available data and feedback from several sources. This work will be done alongside a team of External Affairs colleagues and seeks to further promote the School’s overall marketing portfolio and strategy – key messages, design and look, web and social media, as well as advertising and promotional activities. Qualifications B.S. or B.A. in a related field Skills in Content Development for a variety of platforms - written word, photography, videography, and all facets of social media. A clear understanding of and ability to articulate the value proposition of boarding schools – particularly single-gender institutions with unique, niche missions like BRS. Comfort with autonomy and responsibility in the framework of a high-performing team. Engaging communications and interpersonal skills. Balance goal-orientation with an eye for detail. Analytical skills; comfort with using data in reporting and making decisions. Proficiency in Word and Excel. Proficiency or interest in learning the Adobe Creative Suite (Ps, Il, Lr, Pr, Ae) Proficiency with relevant social media platforms (FB, IG, X), ability to evaluate performance and grow engagement, and report results with data. Key Responsibilities Develop and deploy compelling new communications content and tools for social media and website use. Assist the Director of Marketing in monitoring the School’s website and supporting social media platforms to ensure that they are up to date, accurate, and are a positive representation of the institution. Be present at many school events and games to capture photo and video assets to use on social media and other channels. Manage BRS social media channels, posting regularly (at least 3-4 times a week with the goal of 6-10 posts/week) about activities on campus. Monitor engagement on posts, respond to comments as necessary, and revise posting strategy based on what interests BRS’s external audiences. Within Athletic communications specifically, consistently promote athletic events in advance, tell the story of BRS athletic teams on the relevant platforms, systematize and standardize BRS sports communication across teams and platforms, and ensure the School’s website is fully updated with team schedules, results, and other key logistical information. Promote niche programs and aspects of the School (all-boys, all-boarding; Fishburne Learning Center; Outdoor Programs). Have an editor’s eye with the ability to review/improve a variety of materials in video, electronic, and print format. Ensure that all marketing activities support the School’s visual and written brand standards. In coordination with the Director of the Baron Fund, communicate regularly with alumni affinity groups about BRS events in which they may be interested. Remain aware of the School’s larger marketing plan and develop redundant knowledge about the broader BRS communications effort. Coordinate with and add value to the External Affairs Team (Admission, Advancement, Communication, Special Programs, Alumni, and Parent Associations). Monitor peer institutions’ similar activities and keep the External Affairs team updated on trends and fresh ideas. Be an impactful member of the BRS community through participation in student life, special events, and other activities. Participate in one season of co-curricular programming and as a ½ share duty team member. Perform other related roles as assigned by the Associate Head of School for External Affairs.
