Overview
WAHL Clipper Corporation is seeking a collaborative Product Designer to add fresh ideas and energy to our New Product Development team. The original posting notes that we are looking for a designer to support NPD by creating new 3D models, design concepts, prototypes, and assemblies, and to revise existing models and drawings to deliver new products.
Base pay range
$25.00/hr - $30.00/hr

This role supports the NPD team and involves the design process from concept through to production, including creation of 3D models, prototypes, and detail drawings, and revisions to support new product launches.
Responsibilities
- Product Designer for new or existing product components with a solid understanding of design tools and methods.
- Use CAD to create 3-D free-form or complex models and design concepts for refined parts for production.
- Collaborate with manufacturing and QA to design parts for tooling, assembly and quality.
- Apply drafting practices and standards for part drawing creation.
- Create and evaluate functional prototypes for design reviews and analysis.
- Revise existing product component or assembly designs for continuous improvement.
- Initiate design and drawing revisions, ECNs, and implement changes.
- Troubleshoot new product manufacturing issues with production to resolve design/assembly problems.
- Collaborate with manufacturing and quality for fixture and inspection gauge concept development and support for new product fixtures and gauges launched in production.
- Utilize measurement tools (micrometers, calipers, comparators) and assign part tolerances with tolerance stack-up knowledge.
- Provide training and mentoring to new staff.
- Participate in market research as needed and apply end-user feedback to designs.
Principal accountabilities
- Serve as the technical product designer on product development teams.
- Develop complex 3-D CAD models of free-form housings, assemblies, and component designs suitable for tooling and production.
- Ensure part manufacturability for tooling and assembly; support prototype builds and performance evaluations.
- Apply understanding of manufacturing processes and assembly techniques to design and revise parts/assemblies.
- Provide troubleshooting for components and products in manufacturing.
- Develop and support fixtures and gauges required to launch new products.
- Complete design change work and ECN implementation into production.
- Create component detail drawings and construct prototypes.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the manager and ensure compliance with approval agency requirements.
Minimum requirements
- Associates Degree in Engineering Technology or equivalent experience
- Skilled in design, 3D design, and construction of parts/models
- Ability to troubleshoot design problems
- Good organizational skills, detail-oriented, and strong communication
- Proficiency in operating CAD systems required
- Siemens NX preferred
