Job Title: Substation Designer Job Description
We are seeking a Substation Designer to develop physical layout designs for substations ranging from 12kV to 500kV. The role involves creating detailed drawings and 3D models using AutoCAD, MicroStation, or other CAD software, and preparing bills of materials, equipment specifications, and construction packages. The designer will coordinate with electrical engineers to integrate protection and control systems into physical designs, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards.
Responsibilities

Develop physical layout designs for substations, including equipment placement, bus configurations, grounding systems, and conduit routing.

Create detailed drawings and 3D models using AutoCAD, MicroStation, or other CAD software.

Prepare bills of materials, equipment specifications, and construction packages.

Coordinate with electrical engineers to integrate protection and control systems into physical designs.

Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards (e.g., IEEE, NESC, NEC), and client specifications.

Support permitting and construction efforts by providing technical documentation and responding to RFIs.

Collaborate with civil and structural teams to ensure proper foundation and structural support for substation equipment.

Participate in design reviews and quality assurance processes.
Essential Skills

6+ years of experience performing physical substation designs.

Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.

Associate's Degree or Certificate in Computer Aided Drafting, Substation Design, Electrical Engineering, or Physical Design.
Additional Skills & Qualifications

Familiarity with substation equipment such as transformers, breakers, disconnects, and buswork.

Understanding of grounding, lightning protection, and conduit systems.

Strong organizational and communication skills.

Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.

Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Homestead, Pennsylvania.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $45.00/hr.
